Handicap feature, and +noobquad setting

This is where I'd like to experiment with rewards on the scoreboard, to provide some incentive for using the optional handicap.

Like, the game could keep track of total damage dealt per player (before the handicap was applied), and show rankings on the scoreboard based on raw damage dealt out to opponents.

The idea would be, to make it very obvious on the scoreboard, for situations like: Yeah player X got 30 frags, but player Y had 75% handicap and was #1 in raw damage points dealt (7859 damage points) or whatever.

I can understand that  ur sure up late man, drunk like me? let's hope so    but in all seriousness this idea will please only a handful through alot of work to get.....if it's worth it to you, im amazed even further of your care for random players.

The irony.  It was your ruthless and selfish behaviour on the server which prompted all this to happen.  I saw you empty the xrazy server the other night in a matter of seconds....does that tell you anything, hmm?

If this server comes together I know we won't see YOU there...you have your pathological need for frags to nurture.

Will be interesting to see what players actually go there.

I think I have an even better solution to this dilemma. Instead of wasting all that time throwing together code for all this weird shit that's never been seen in Quake2 before,... why don't we just make a new server which has no frag limit per map, but instead, a time limit. Also, make it to where the scoreboard will not display the frags a person has. If someone accumulating too many frags on a scoreboard is going to piss a few people off, toss the scoreboard out. Seems like a suitable solution.

But then again...

Alas, methinks even this won't pacify the mini-mob. They won't be silenced until they have the power to dilute any higher skilled player's abilities down to a watery tincture equal to theirs.

Well.  We are lucky enough to have 2 Xatrix servers on the tastyspleen network.  If we don't like one there's another to GOTO.

I personally think Spawngirl has en excellent set of fun maps on her server, far superior to the current xatrix server rotation.  Xrazy also has a massively bigger bandwidth allowing for large downloads to happen very quickly.

I think this handicapping thing is a just a fun project for the superhardcore q2 nerds - Arm0r was just the catalyst for this geekfest but I doubt somwhow if the rules would ever be applied to the Xatrix server.

There are a lot of noobs on Xatrix.  You spot them very quickly.  I adjust my playing style easily to accommodate their skill levels to try and make the game fun for everybody.  I generally go into practise jump mode in these situations - see what weird places you can get to on the map, and maybe frag somebody if they start shooting at me.  This is fun.  And I don't have to bash the living shit out of a noob to have my fun.

If I can do it I'm sure you all can - unless you have a pathological need for frags - in which case why don't you fuck off to TDM?

I don't expect you to understand toxic, you still don't even get it's not me playing on the servers you get raped off of--it's my younger brother    if you want though, I can start connecting to the same server when he gets on so you have to deal with 2 of us?   

Nah, I don't like ffa--has it's fun points but all and all it's to much spam for me.    I'm sure as long as there is people better than you you'll  have something to cry about so I suppose you might wanna start buying tissues in bulk.

Thank you Armor and Focalor for dredging up the troll thread back into the one that was split from it. In light of this I, unfortunately, was unable to complete the "mental handicap" feature to accommodate you two.


Fortunately I was able to get the functionality of both features down pat this morning. I think that implementation may be out of my scope, though. As soon as I get home tonight, I will post the code samples. Probably just zip the whole folder and attach. I did have to make some changes to the source unrelated to mine. One example is the #include zlib line. MSVC 2005 express can go jump off a bridge for all I care. No matter how much I type, retype, or add "NO_ZLIB" to my preprocessor it ALWAYS compiles that line of code. Microsoft LAWLS. 

I actually solved one of the Preprocessor problems. Apparently you cannot create a solution based on an existing VC project file AND change your active project in the same session. You have to close the program and reopen it. I had a similar problem once before.

Anyway, both features are pretty cool to see in action.

And to answer anyone's future possible question, no this is not the first mod that I've done on the 4th of July. I once programmed a weapons mod (pwmod which ran on one of my server ports for a brief period of time) the night after I came home from the fireworks show about 5 years ago.

won't use it, so really I don't care what you work on tonight.   You seem to forget the aspect that for this to ease anyones bleeding vagina, you'll have to convince the players to use it.  Good luck on that one, were all on the same playing field and I don't plan to give out any advantages.
