Sounded familiar.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_Table_Pizza

Apparently it IS still around, and it's headquartered here in Atlanta, although I have never ever seen one anywhere that I recall. From looking at the locations section of the chains site, they tend to be all up and down the west coast, and then they have two or three stores in Texas, but none anywhere else. Odd that they'd have their HQ in a state on the opposite side of the country. But perhaps they did have a store here a long time ago. Reason why it sounds familiar... I think I have a little aluminum collector coin that might've been from there or something similar. I think it said something about Round Table on it and had a picture of King Arthur on it. Seems like it was some kinda commerative anniversary coin (19?? to 1970-something). It was about twice the size of a Kennedy half dollar, pretty big. I either got it from a friend or stole it out of the lost and found at the day care place I went to as a kid in the mid 80s. Only other King Arthur themed thing around here that I know of would've been Medieval Times restaurant (where they have knights and jesters and jousting while you eat), but I think that's a relatively new place, probably wasn't operating in the 70's.

Got me curious as hell now. I'll have to dig through the closets and see if I still have it. I always wondered where the hell that thing came from.

edit: after a little looking online, I'm thinking it could be a Mardi Gras dubloon coin that folks in the Mardi Gras parade throw to the crowd.

BEER. I'm eating beer. Without a fork. Living dangerously. :dohdohdoh:

I have been relatively alcohol free for the last many years. Recently I've been drinking hefeweisen again (in completely sane sensible responsible adult amounts). If you're not familiar with it, it's usually German-made beer (there are some American-made versions), and it's made primarily from wheat rather than barley and malt like pilsner. So it's got a bit of a unique flavor to it. More of a robust flavor and aftertaste to it than regular beers. And I also kinda prefer Hefeweisen because it's usually a lower alcohol content, usually around 5.5%. I don't really like beers with more than about 5.9%. The extra alcohol tends to overpower the subtle flavors.

I was surprised the other week when I was at the Walmart up in Gainesville and spotted some Paulaner Hefeweisen in the craft beer section. Usually I only find it at liquor stores with large beer selections. It used to be my favorite beer back in the day. It was kinda pricey though (for beer at walmart), about 14 bucks for a 6-pack I think.

Yesterday I was at Ingles, which probably none of you have heard of. It's a sort of local chain of grocery stores with stores in Georgia, NC, SC, and Tenn, maybe one or two in Alabama. To my surprise they had some Weihenstephaner, which is another hefeweiss I tried once or twice back in the day. Pretty good stuff, I think it might be a little better than the Paulaner.

Since Covid started, sometimes my local Publix has had trouble keeping RC Cola and Red Rock Ginger Ale in stock. So one of those times I was hunting around the drink section for something else instead and saw that Publix had these big 23oz cans of Arizona Arnold Palmer Half & Half (half iced tea, half lemonade). And the Ingles (a southern regional grocery store) that I sometimes go to has it in the 12packs of 12oz cans. Anyway, it's pretty good. I definitely recommend it. Basically tastes like regular Arizona sweet tea with lemon. Really good stuff. I think it's like 89 cents a can for the single 23oz-ers maybe, I dunno.

I also bought some of the little packets of Arizona Arnold Palmer mix powder. You take a regular 16oz bottle of water, dump in one packet, shake, drink. It's not really all that great. I couldn't recommend it. But we keep several different drink mixes on hand. Different types of Sunkist packets, Country Time lemonade, Kool-Aid, etc.

But today I discovered something. We always have a fresh pitcher of sweet tea in the fridge.

This...

Plus this...

...Is reeeeeaaaaally damn good.

If you have tea (most self respecting normal Americans do), get some Pink Lemonade mix. Don't just pour the lemonade mix directly into a glass of tea. Make up a pitcher of sweet tea, then make up another pitcher of pink lemonade. Get a big glass, pour about 1/3 of the pink lemonade, and 2/3 sweet tea. Good stuff.

Apparently some people call it a "Pink Palmer". I got to looking online and apparently Arizona makes an Arizona Arnold Palmer "Southern Style" Half & Half with pink lemonade, but I've never seen it before at any store or gas station around here.

lol- I always thought most Americans did not drink tea, maybe more the cold style then? I love tea. Currently working on a box of Red Rose.

Cheers,

I sometimes drink hot tea. It's kinda rare. When I do, it's the k-cups of Twinings Irish breakfast black tea.

Black tea is the only hot tea I wanna drink. I've tried a few of those different celestial seasonings teas and other brands and varieties, and they all taste like flower petals. :21210-7:

But we usually make a gallon of sweetened iced tea every day. Boil a pot of water, pour it in the pitcher, dunk two Luzianne tea bags and let it steep about 20 minutes (box says to do 4 bags for a gallon, but I usually do 2 or 3), remove tea bags, dump in 3 big scoops of sugar, stir while still warm to dissolve sugar, then pour in a bunch of ice and stir to melt it, fill the rest with chilled water. Keep in fridge for a day or two. Usually it's gone within a day. By day 2, it starts tasting kinda off.

Down here in the south, sweet tea is our basic drink. Every restaurant sells it, and everybody has it on hand at home. Unless they're a yankee transplant. :swear:

That iced tea sounds awesome. I did not know that there are tea bags made just for that purpose. Here we use a powder to make "iced tea" but it's not going to be anything like what you all make in the southern U.S. I never drink that powdered death-by-diabetes myself, just plain old black tea. Here orange pekoe refers to a grade of tea, not an orange flavouring in case you did not know, and many do not, including myself for the longest time.

Cheers,

Been drinking this stuff more lately. Trying to cut back on coffee. I got a 50ct box of the single bags like the picture rather than the k-cups... by accident at first. Thought I was getting the K-cups. But I discovered that the bags are WAY better tasting than the k-cups, and WAY cheaper per cup too, so I'm gonna stop buying the ridiculously overpiced k-cups from now on. Good stuff. Darker and and a little heavier tasting than the english breakfast tea. The box aint kidding, it's plenty strong. If I drink this stuff anywhere near bedtime, sleep ain't happenin'. I suspect it's got at least 2x the caffeine as a cup of med-light roast coffee.

Heh, I thought it was a bit odd that anyone would use K-cups for tea. Glad you found bags and they are definitely much cheaper. Now, to be a true tea snob you must try  loose leaf and it must be at least Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe or T.G.F.O.P. (too good for ordinary people).  ::)

A while back, I was talking to someone (can't remember who) on a server, and we were talking about coffee. I think they recommended this brand to me. Anyway, I was at the store yesterday and needed some coffee. Thought I'd mix it up and try something different. Saw this stuff sitting on the shelf and thought it might've been the brand someone recommended to me, so I got a 10-pack of pods to try it out.

Bulletproof - original flavor - medium roast

Never thought I'd find anything I like as much as Dunkin Donuts, but this stuff might actually be BETTER. I usually prefer light roasts like DD because it tends to be sweeter (or less bitter anyway, I always gotta use 3 spoons of sugar). It has a really nice BOLD flavor to it. Good stuff. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend.

Good god, all the pics I hotlinked are obviously gone now. Gonna have to start remembering to attach every single pic I guess. ::)

Still drinking Bulletproof coffee. Best coffee around in my opinion. Perhaps it's catching on. I saw that my local Publix is starting to carry it in both the K-cups and pre-ground bags now. I'm tellin' you people, good stuff, give it a try. It's kind of expensive though. Currently priced at about 12 bucks for a pack of 10 pods, which is honestly too much to pay for coffee, but that's the name of the game with k-cups. No matter WHAT you get in a k-cup, it's overpriced. Bags of grounds have gone up over the years too, but the price you pay per cup is still "reasonable". I'm thinking about going back to a basket filter and carafe. I saw a little mini Mr. Coffee 4-cup carafe at Target the other day for about 22 bucks, might do something like that.

I still drink Dunkin Donuts original coffee too. It's also really good stuff. Beats any kind of Starbucks or Peet's or Newmans Own or Green Mountain you'll ever find, in my opinion.

I saw somewhere earlier this year that Dunkin Donuts was considering coming out with some kind of chocolate donut or boston creme donut flavored coffee, and I've been hoping to see it in stores, but perhaps they changed their mind and didn't release it. I did see this at the store yesterday and picked up a box to try. Dunkin "Falling for Maple" maple flavored limited edition.

Tried some this morning. Good stuff! Like the box shows, it's kinda like coffee with maple syrup flavor. Would go great with some homemade waffles covered in real maple syrup. Seriously people, don't eat that Aunt Jemima or Log Cabin stuff, it's corn syrup with tons of sugar and artificial maple flavor added.

Speaking of maple syrup... I was hearing on the news a lot earlier this year that there was supposed to be a maple syrup shortage. Perhaps it's true, because pretty much EVERY SINGLE brand of syrup I've seen in stores since springtime have all been super-duper watery, like they are possibly watering down their syrup to stretch it farther. Kind of annoying. You pour it and it just runs everywhere off the waffles or pancakes.

I have ate at the one in Statesboro, GA a couple of times, it was pretty good.  I give it a 8 out of 10.

Had my ma staying with me this week. We've been running all over the place since this weekend trying to get Christmas shopping done. We went down to the one in Snellville where we used to live. Had leftovers from a large, so I ate that again for dinner last night. The indigestion almost killed me to death, but it was worth it. :D

If you're ever up towards Atlanta and want the best greek pizza on the planet, check out the Athens Pizza, 1341 Clairmont Rd., Decatur. A lot of places all over the state call themselves "Athens Pizza"... this is the REAL one. Voted best pizza in Atlanta probably 40 years straight. Perhaps Felini's Pizza over in Little 5 Points has won a few times too, they're pretty good, but they're more Italian.

https://athenspizzaatlanta.com/

Thurs night special used to be the lamb shank. They would only do it that one night a week because it's too much trouble to cook piece of lamb that size that they likely won't use up. I don't see it listed on the online menu. But that's another thing they got that is OUT OF THIS FUCKING WORLD. Hopefully they didn't stop making it.

I have not been up to the Gainesville area for 3 or 4 years now.  Almost all of my family from there have died off.  I still have a 1st cousin there, but he is always very busy and now has grandkids on top of that.  I might get back up there someday  :raincloud:

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
