OH HELLO THERE
Do any of you roll? By roll, I refer to the sport/art/lifestyle of inline skating of the aggressive nature (see how much better rolling sounds?)
I DO LOL
Haven't been back into it for that long, about a month and a half or so, thus i'm not all that great, but learning relatively quick. leg strength and upper body strength is increasing so I can spin more and obvs jump higher, I can comfortably jump onto 2.5-3.5ft ledges and switch up on them, and last time I was skating I nailed AO (Alleyoop, 180 onto and slide backwards) versions of most soul tricks. soul (duh), miz, mistrial, acid, porn, accidently landed an ao unity and ao back royale.
my skates:
Razors gen shifty shell
Kaltik freestyles
eulogy 52m/89a fuckin gonzo somethings

ah rollerblades..
I have a set of all black original Lightnings that put all these newfangled skates to shame.
Unfortunately they are now 4 sizes too small for me, since I last skated back in high school.

also reaper, no need to bash on either sport, but the video I linked isnt the worlds greatest skating or anything, it's just the latest chaz invite. theres a lot of tech in there, i'd like to see a skateboarder do a 900 to disaster top soul (haffey didnt land it but eh), but I wont because they're two completely different things. I have utmost respect for GOOD skateboarders, absoloutely none for terrible ones and ones who bash other sports.
vinny has styleeeeee

I thought you meant rolling on ex for a sec.. ha
I skateboard, and longboard...... not as much as I used to though. Haven't in a week or 2. I surf more than anything. Equipment doesn't really matter too much as long as it responds decent, with skating for me anyways being that I'm not a serious skater. (my main surfboard is $700 though...) When I did skate a lot I'd pull kick flips, varial flips, and the easier grinds pretty much every time. Wasn't ever good enough, like a few of my friends, to hit 360 flips, grabs, and hard flips on the reg. off kickers, funboxes, halfpipes, etcetc.
The other night I did something pretty cool I thought though. I was drunk as shit after hanging out with some girls in a hot tub and going up to their room..........anyway, me and my buddy were extremely drunk skating / walking home and I borrowed his
long board
from him.. which is prob. a little less than 3ft. I successfully double kick flipped 4-5 stairs... barefoot, first try.

Just watched that video...
skateboarding isn't 10x harder reaper, maybe a little though. there was way too much music / dramatic effects and not enough tech. skill in that vid though.
Random, and unrelated... contemporary pioneer in aerial / trick surfing, jordy smith, did a rodeo flip the other day:
http://surfermag.com/av/flash/jordy-smith-rodeo-flip-mentawais/
This tops Timmy Curren's sloppy back flip 2 years ago, as well as other sloppy rodeo-like spins :>

I used to fuck around on roller blades. I played hockey all through junior high and high school, and have other experience with skating (skating on skis). I used to fuck around at schools where there was nice cement, I wasn't awesome at it or anything, but I could jump up on things, land backwards, jump off forward, etc. I pretty much see all those things as doable in the video from my point of view with practice, but give me a skateboard and I can't even alley. For some reason skateboarding was always super difficult for me, but I always felt right at home skating..
It just seems that skateboarding takes 10 times more to skill to me, i'm not bashing the roller blading, just giving props to the skaters.
now here's the man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uk4V12zHtjc
Dusty Diller owns. Only a slice of skiing though, just a little bumps, no steep runs or anything. I'd like to make a video of this mountain, it's a couple hours up north to me, home of the 1980 winter olympics, and the olympic downhill run. I ski it with insane speed on the verge of wrecklessness. Everyone knocks the mountains here, but that's cuz they don't know what's up. 3,600 foot veritical, tons of ice and wind, very steep.

like I said, I think it's difficult to say x is harder than y when they're two different things, I could post some insane vert rollerblading that would change the way you looked at it (infact ill do so =p) but, as I don't skate vert it seems somewhat irrelevant, and yeah the video I posted is heavy on effects and whatnot, I just like the pace its set with the music. haha at the drunk antics haunt, sounds nuts :p I used to skateboard as well, I think to begin with yes skateboarding is probably harder to get to grips with, basic grinds on skates (such as front sides, souls) are very simple and easier than grinding on a skateboard, but as the more technical sort of tricks kick in, they split off into two completely different and into a category of their own, skateboarders can do insane things as can skaters. theres no way a boarder would be able to pull off this for example, it simply isnt in the mechanics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIcD-dJrVqs
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ax_V7-UxAo
- perhaps the latter, but again it would be in a much different way.
the actual film for this (barely dead) is amazing, highly reccomend watching it even if you arent a blader, it covers stuff like the idiotic rivalry between bmx, boarders and rollers, how it began, roots, etc. trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDas9Y7tW38
finally
for the ridiculous vert thing,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXRCv2StseY
- if you cba to watch scroll to 2 minutes in and wait.
ah, and fuck off krenz. who are you again?

Right off the bat the skates are attached to your feet, don't you think that makes it easier?

To stay on yes, of course, but I think it also makes it more difficult in the way that if you fuck up skateboarding you can most of the time jump off, run a little and avoid injury altogether, if you drop on skates you're going down hard 60% of the time and you cant just jump off em
