C'mon, kids... this is starting to feel like an awkward family Thanksgiving or something.



Anyway...

Honestly, I don't think this is as big a problem on the Xatrix server as it was before the XRAZY server was put on line.  I suspect that most download complaints now are coming from the XRAZY server because the maps in the rotation are very custom, and full of additional sound files.

I'm referring specifically to complaints about downloads on XATRIX.  On XRAZY, every map is a download, and it has no prior history, so every complaint there is answered with "download the map pak". 

My only concern is for the XATRIX server, which I have called my Quake2 home for years. I hope that you will take the initial steps discussed, and see if this lessens complaints about the XATRIX server.  I suspect that it will help.

Presumably, if we are concerned about downloads on XATRIX, we should be looking at the total download size (bsp, texture, env, sounds) for a given map, and not necessarily who authored the override?


As an aside: for R1Q2 users, downloads should be fast on XATRIX now, same as XRAZY.  (Actually, this should have been the case for a few weeks now.)

SpawnGirl had 40 overrides on XATRIX.  (59 overrides on XRAZY.)

Removing her overrides from XATRIX cut the maplist by about 27%.

This still leaves a number of large download maps on XATRIX, such as about a dozen marics maps, plus jester maps, etc.

I guess we'll see how it goes....................

Esc > Multiplayer > player setup > download options > sounds: no
(or in console: allow_download_sounds 0)

Quoted for truth. You have several options to make things behave the way you want them to. You can temp disable sound downloads, make sure http downloading is on, or hell, just grab all the sounds from the site. I'd personally reccomend the latter, because the sounds are pretty nifty once you get them.

But i WAS there when the complains were being discussed.

2 or 3 days ago, a few players complained about the noise, it frustates their play because they cant hear their opponents.

They even put their downloads to off becasue they hate the big and noisy sounds.

Huge downloads was a big issue too.

Console can see it in the logs if he likes, but the one lying here is spawngirl. There are much more often complains about the sounds.

What i see is that spawny always pulls things out of context, curses at people and then blame other people if she is being cursed at or is being criticizedd
