Hello console,

PLEASE don't further restrict the mymap functionality on xatrix. Most people should be using R1CH Q2 Client with HTTP downloading anyway, so I do not understand the problem? I'm on a Mac and therefore can't benefit from HTTP downloads, but I am willing to show the patience necessary just for the nice feeling of being surprised by the exploration of interesting new levels.
Being bound to the rule to always play two standard maps between "mymap's" would not be so nice. Just because 1 of 50 people don't have R1CH client all should suffer from it? I don't think so.

Yeah, I don't think that the type of traffic that Xatrix sees warrants the same kind of actions that have been taken on Vanilla. It's a completely different audience with a different set of wants and needs.

Purely out of curiosity, when was the last time that you've seen any bot, racism, or mymap abuse claims ever come from the Xatrix server?

I'd like to report that the Xatrix server seems to be acting up.  All players are experiencing the inability to move about more than a few seconds at a time.  It's been going on for at least 2 days now.

And, since the subject has come up, I think it makes sense to remove Spawns maps from the Xatrix server, and remove my maps from the XRAZY server.  Spawn and I have 2 different styles, and I think it serves all players well, to be able to switch back and forth when they want a change of pace/scenery.  It's seems somewhat pointless to have overlapping maps.

Dukie, I'd love to see you play more Xatrix.  Same goes for JQuest and Pantaloons.  I miss you guys.

some common maps that people might actually have in their baseq2 folder are actually quite quick to download when they come up due to only having to grab minimal resources from the server.

even with http downloading, pulling down 10+MB of sounds and textures for very custom maps, and env files, and the map which is usually 1.5mb or more, is very time consuming.

I have nearly 2Gb of custom maps, textures, sounds and env in my q2 folder, and I still find myself having to sit for 4-5 minutes when a very custom map (such as those on the XRAZY server) comes up. Much of this is related to having really really long new sound files added into the map that were not there originally.


I'd second the call for mostly just stock xatrix/dm maps being on Xatrix with a reasonable amount of customs that are just overrides of common and simple maps from mutant or other TS deathmatch servers.

It would make it much more likely for people to play on there and stay around for a couple maps, who had not previously played the mod. (as-is they'd have to download all the mod specific models, then a map, then a bunch of sounds, then textures, then envs, player models if they have this set, etc.. this would make me disconnect very quick)

Well, is like that:

First my english sucks 

In xrazy server the maps have many work, days of work in sounds and ambience.
And many days searching cool maps with great graphics, bwcity or bwcity2 for example.

The download is big yes.

Is like that. You can play old maps with basic q2 textures or try new ones. Anyway with all the sounds and new textures xrazy is small in comparison with new games that are more popular in Internet and require fast and better computers,  video cards.

I made the overrides and thats 10 MB sounds yes. The idea is to create atmosphere. But maybe is not nice to everybody, i understand, then, the logic indicates that they would not have to be in xatrix. I think is correct to delete all my overrides of xatrix but, ALSO exterminander maps.

Lamentably exterminander has not had a good relation of friendship with me, and now I do not want his overrides in xrazy.
Exterminander sent this subject, if now it must remain without his maps is his problem, not mine.

The exterminander overrides of marics are huge too.

Was add atmosphere to maps, by sounds. And search for cool maps that the 80 % of the poeple never played before.
I understand the complains but, many players enjoy the idea in xrazy. So is it is an advance.
I have 250 kbps and I always must wait to download any map, people who have 2 Megas or more of speed make complains, i dont understand.

The maps in xrazy have quality, and are funy maps, with work, and sounds. I added sound to the flags, wind and flags, for give a example. I think in all the details.

Well, if my work is nothing, then the players can play in vanilla or dm the same maps of always. I just wanted to to contribute with something new and elaborated to tastyspleen.

BTW, squisher or pewee play in xrazy or xatrix, maybe other players who have complains rarely play in xatrix mod, so... idk
Poeple of outside leave opinions, why do not ask to the xatrix regular players?

I actually used to be a xatrix regular. I partly stopped playing it because of some of the maps in the rotation. Some of the standard Xatrix maps would make great standard DM maps but are unplayable with traps. Also I've been so busy with work the past 3 months, that's probably the last time on the server logs that I hit that server.

Xrazy is great. You, X7 and I have had some epic battles there. It does get to be a chore, however, to keep up with all of the maps though. I don't think it should change, I just personally can't keep up by being updated with all the new maps until work calms down.

I was under the impression that it was supposed to be like Mutant is to DM.

Same mod, but one would have the more stock offerings, and the other would have the very custom ones.

This way people who wanted to play fairly normal stock xatrix without downloading a bunch of stuff, would get to, and those that wanted to play custom maps every time would also have a place to go with a different rotation that is geared more toward what they want.

I seem to remember some of the regs at the time being unhappy with the near constant mymapping of very custom overrides which was making the Xatrix server into something other than what they'd played for years.

I don't think the problem was that there were new maps, just that they were being regularly mymapped over top of the rotation to such a point that nobody could play one stock xatrix map without having to download a shit ton of new customs and play thru them for the allotted time/fraglimit.


People don't cry much about match1 on DM, or the weird customs on vanilla, but thats because most of the time the regular intelligently designed rotation is being used on those servers to keep the gameplay fairly similar to what people have been playing on them for years now, as opposed to constant new stuff being mymapped.

Dervish has summed it up pretty well, but yes, I've received enough complaints from former xatrix regulars about map downloads, that I'm looking for possible ways to improve their experience without taking away too much from those who don't mind the downloads and who enjoy the new maps.

If XRAZY were in TASTYSPLEEN ZONE instead of INDEPENDENT ZONE, then I would probably take the dm/mutant approach outlined by Dervish.  And just leave xatrix running its old rotation (plus small-download or no-download overrides like xstrike, xbiggun, xbunk1, etc.), and make xrazy have all the new custom big download overrides.

But, XRAZY is spawngirl's own server, and she can set the maplist and rotation to whatever she likes.

So.... as I said in an earlier post: We can remove spawngirl's overrides from xatrix, since they have a home on xrazy. 

But that still leaves us with the question of whether the remaining large-download overrides on xatrix (marics maps, etc.) are a problem for the various folks who have been unhappy with map downloads.

Makes sense?

So, I'm open to ideas...  (Of course, we could create a third server, but I'm not sure that makes sense given the already small size of the xatrix community....)

I think you know that I didn't mean YOU were criticizing me.

Honestly, I don't think this is as big a problem on the Xatrix server as it was before the XRAZY server was put on line.  I suspect that most download complaints now are coming from the XRAZY server because the maps in the rotation are very custom, and full of additional sound files.  Removing the duplicated custom XRAZY overrides from the Xatrix server will lessen the chances of players getting stuck with a gigantic wav file impregnated download.  NONE of the overrides I have done (or anyone else that I know of) have additional huge sound files.  Any sound files I have added (and there are only a slim few) are along the lines of a sound effect, and not 3 minute ear and mind bashing music (noise), or whore moans etc.  But I digress...

My only concern is for the XATRIX server, which I have called my Quake2 home for years. I hope that you will take the initial steps discussed, and see if this lessens complaints about the XATRIX server.  I suspect that it will help.

The Xatrix rotation has had only minor changes to the rotation in the past several years, and contains NONE of my overrides! Chances are, if you jump into the XATRIX server, you will very likely be playing a stock rotation map, but, if you DO happen to jump in to a non-stock map and you prefer to play the rotation type maps, you could always make simple use of the MYMAP function to queue up your favorite!  I also love the original rotation maps...

If somebody wanna download a new map is not important if are 10 megas of textures and env (like some marics maps of exterminander) or 10 megas with sounds (4 megas of map textures 6 of sounds) the time is the same, so... hehe

Anyway, like I am a person who knows where is my place, then i must say that you are disrespectful with CONSOLE asking slyly for you the xatrix server....
