Servers and Alias's from your Q2 past
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:25:11 PM »
I played at a server called Homnet (located in Macon, GA) from 98 to about 2000-2001 when Homnet went down  :bigcry:
Actually traveled over 300 miles to LAN with the group twice  :ubershock:

I moved on the Enter.net, it was located in Allentown, PA
I played there from 2000-2001 to mid 2002 when I left Q2 for a couple of years.

At the same time I was playing at Enter.net I also spent alot of time playing at Velocity.net, it was located in Erie, PA
Velocity had a unique mod, all weapons were available but the rail was insta.

When I started playing Q2 again both Enter.net and Velocity were gone or on there way out  :raincloud:
When I came back, Tastyspleen was the best (and still is ) Q2 server going, so it became my new fraggin home.

I played as Sgt. Dick at Homnet, Enter, and Velocity.  After taking a couple of years off I came back with a new name IOU.
I still use Sgt. Dick sometimes, especially if I see someone I recognize from way back.

I used to play on MSN Zone. I played in the demo rooms because it had a friendlier fan base. There were quite a few full version people that installed the demo to avoid some of the problems. When the first 40 game room slots are all OSP and WOD, you tend to find a new place. (I believe that the MAX clan, and Assassin from the EDL were originally zone players)

I dabbled in Mplayer for a while because of my previous good experience with their Q1 services.

I mostly hosted my own servers on the Zone. That's where I started mapping and modding. The big mods at this time were Chaos and instagib-Feeze tag. Still great now, but the audience seem to have moved on. Getting to know Darrel Bircsak was like talking to a celebrity! Great guy.

After the gaming zone stopped providing the quake 2 rooms, I moved to Game-a-holic. That is simply a server listing that provides IP and basic server info. I worked on Marine CTF and hosted it using their website as a listing and a few basic Master server listings as well. During that time I was obsessed with Aq2 (which is why i wanted to make marine CTF to emulate it). I couldn't tell you the names of the Aq2 servers that I played. They have so many servers in places like sweden that I couldn't pronounce the names let alone remember them.

When I started college I was too into single player games, like doom 3 and replaying all of the classic dooms and the doom clones that I merely ran the marine CTF server and rarely logged in.

After a while I started playing AQ2 again and jumping between mage's warehouse and here. I found that the CTF scene was back in action over at acme CTF. The servers are great, the admin is good at what he does, and the forums are pretty funny. Well except that the admin over there is pretty humorless and bans people based on personal disagreements. (and his regular admin's routinely use racial slurs with no punishment)

After a ban at the forums I took some time off, assuming that it must be me that had the problem. Someone had once reactivated his troll account at acme and talked about how much better TS was as a community. I brushed it off because he was a notorious troll at acme. (For that I applaud him ;D). After trying to get some of the really really cool members from over there (oldasdirt, RoyTanner, recon) to keep up communications I started a developer network to do so. zeliepa.com/dna

I found the goto network on vanilla, thinking the whole time that there was only one tastyspleen server, and since then I've been here. It really is that one feature that got me here to stay.

Back In 98, started on the Andara Servers in Nova Scotia (my old Clan AmC days)
Then around 2000, I moved on to Yodas Barn that were located in UMass (yodas barn was a mad popular place)
After Yodas closed it doors in around 2003, I floated around different servers including enter.net
Took a Hiatus in 2005 and found this place in 2007

Aliases, oh man. [AmC]HateTrain, Action Jackson. NikNakPaddyWak etc, up till now with [BTF]Old#7, Zippitydodah, Special K

I ran quite a few Quake2 servers, as well as a community website, from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth 1998-2002.  The site was called Qmass.net (Internet Archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20000815235455/http://www.qmass.net/).  Qmass was  basically the sister site of Yoda's Barn, which was run out of UMass Amherst.  In fact, I still keep in touch with the YB admin, who left UMass to pursue a career in the adult film industry (really).

Qmass.net hosted several Q2 servers, a QuakeWorld custom maps server for the func_msgboard crew, a CS DOOM and later ZDaemon server, a Half-Life: Counterstrike 1.6 server, a Q3 server, and even a RtCW server.  Those were the days..

My old hande was =[R]=Jay=, for the Quake2 clan I started called Clan RoGuE.  Side note; I think "clans" are silly these days, but I was much younger back then.  I also used to play as Captain Cocksucker and RoGuEBiTcH.  Each handle now strikes me as absolutely retarded, but they both had fairly long stories that went along with them..

I started out at Mplayer. This is where I was introduced to Vanilla CTF & found the 'Llamas-o-plenty' server & the BTC (Belching Toad Clan) server. I was at this scene for years and remember having a blast w/ my 320ms ping attempting to defend the base. I don't think I know anyone from that time that still plays q2 ... altho I do still see a few BTC tags from time to time.

For some reason I took a year or so off and when I came back the vanilla ctf scene was dead, :( so I floated from server to server, playing a little bit of ctf at acme, some lithium. Eventually I ran into x-quake & I remember actually having a chat w/ the console there. I met Shloo from the SIR clan early on at x-quake and she was the one that really introduced me to the rest of the regulars on the server. I joined the sir clan soon thereafter & have been a member since.

That's about it! x-quake eventually transformed into tastyspleen and I have been playing here ever since. I've never really aliased, have always been JQuestt[SIR] / JQuestt. (I put the 2nd T on my name due to the CLQ keeping track of stats back in the day. I didn't want someone else using the same name :P)

Started on the MSN Gaming Zone, I used to frequent some room called 'Newbieland!' in the beginning. It had infinite ammo but no weapon stay. Funny stuff with certain regulars on the server who constantly spammed the HB/CG, and also I didn't even realize that my 100+ ping was affecting me as I was also a newbie to using the internet heh. There were also 2 rooms I think that redirected to Aftershock or some other high player capacity FFA server with the standard q2dm1-8 rotation. I used like 10 or so different names, then stuck with one a little while after I started playing 1v1/TDM.

Also played some WoD on Dirt Demon's server. It was funny to observe the tedencies of select players. Someone really liked the railgun and usually mentioned 'wish they were all rails' after finishing up a rail-only map on the rotation. I kinda got irritated by it a few times when he took breakaway leads, especially when the rail had less delay and instantly killed. Someone else liked to hang in a spot with the hook and spam the bazooka, it was pretty bad with the water maps due to instant death electric grenades...

Started 1v1/TDM on a few GXmod servers, I didn't frequent Assassins much, I think I went to maybe HALs or some other server I can't quite remember. When did I start visiting Q2players.org, 2004? I know I visited when the site had green text or green something, but then shortly transitioned to red text and then back to green before it finally died.

Got interested in the mod Giex with my brother. The only server was in Sweden but ping didn't really matter as it mostly revolved around killing monsters and powering up abilities. PvP was sorta interesting with different character builds but ultimately unbalanced with differing levels. My characters were Steelflight, Canaris and Kyper.

First server ever I connect to, was Marty's Playhouse, Lith 2 server.  So hooking was the only way I knew Q2.

Hehe, yep.. I used to finish at or near the top of scoreboard on Yodas.  It was honestly pretty easy to do so with a 20ms ping over the universities' backbone, and 6 hours of fragging time per day. But yea, Darkpriest now works in porn.  Mostly filming, but also "acting" from time to time.   :lolsign:

I dunno about how far in the past they are...

But Edge Madhouse is what really pulled me into the game, 2004

followed shortly by AW Rails.

My first time on AW I won the round,  stayed there for almost half a year after that :)
been here ever since.

Takkissis was my only regular name before this

Ka Da Fe, Pinion, Kapone, and Kameleon on quake 1 though,  and boy that was a fun run.  1997-2003

i think i was using mostly "fragmeat" as my alias back to the beginning of Q1.  i dont remember any server names i frequented.  Even into the early days of Q2, i dont remember what servers.  Around 1997/1998 i picked up the alias Vishnu and joined {LaG} around the same time.  www.lagclan.com  Lunatic Anti-Christ Gumbys!  From that period i most stayed at Gumby's Graveyard.  Server had infinite ammo on all the time, so you would want to grab a rail gun asap to keep chaingunners silent.  i left the game for around a year or so around 2002.  i picked up the alias Gator soon after moving to florida, around 2004.  i had joined >FAS> at that time, and mostly hung on Majikslugz servers or 4u2's Servers.  Sisters of the Worthless Miracle was another server i played at, and Kansas DM.   Kansas DM was probably my longest home if my memory is right.

But once i found TS, it had the best things of all the servers i ever played at.  It quickly became my home, and now, to myself, i feel like there are no others.

Hmmm, seems like i've posted this script before. LOL
But for those that never read it:
I've only really called 2 other servers home besides Tastyspleen. I first picked up Q2 at "Wal"_Mart for $9.99 in 2000. After figuring out that I had to search for IPs I googled Quake2 Servers until it led me to http://www.gameaholic.com/servers/quake2/25/ << Still active btw.
Gameaholic then led me down a road of several sheets of hand written IPs in which I found myself not to far from home. Houston based "Hal-PC.org" I played there until about a solid year or more then left the game for other stuff. After I reinstalled Q2 in 2003 and came back Hal-PC.org was still there but not for long. I was confused why it wasn't ever showing up anymore. <<< insert nub remark here. Gameaholic to the rescue again. More hand written IPs led me to "Sisters of the Worthless Miracle" in which I called home for several tears and years straight and found many many friends that even today pop in at Tastyspleen. After sometime in 2006 it noticed it starting coming and going and coming and going until finally it was just gone. Devastated I didn't know what to do or where to turn. In an instant my Q2 world looked to be just about done with. After hopping around acme, Kansas DM, Mage Warehouse, etc etc . . . I kept coming back to TastySpleen’s Vanilla server. I remember the first time I seen it on gameaholic, I was like TastySpleen??? WTF is that??? LOL
Vanilla was listed on there site. But I oh so longed for my beloved straight DM like Hal and Sisters. After visiting the web site I discovered there was a DM Server. Wooo Hooo, have my prayers been answered ???
No it was not to be (just yet). The DM server was dead as a door nail.
Well to make a long story short I signed up on the forums asked for a few minor tweeks to the DM server and if I could get it on gameaholics list and Whahla !!!!!!! It's PACKED and it's been that way ever since and I have called TastySpleen my one true and only home since that day.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
