I still can't figure out how to add/goto a server in D-Day?

You need to see the observer passoword for observer to work.

what's the server observer_password for The Happy Friar's D-Day 4.1 ??

password's disabled.  I commented it out in the server.cfg file, but I re-enabled it with the password "wallfly".  Can't figure out how to have wallfly log in as observer either.

autodownloads work for me.   just tried it again & it still works.  You have it enabled on your end?

if wallfly won't work then wallfly commands won't work.  You'll still receive messages though.

Edit: I tried "observer wallfly" manually and wallfly did go into observer... But i don't know if that means it will magically work as far as seeing commands properly.

It's possible I can add the needed command(s) to wallfly's config for your server.

Hmm, this didn't work out.  Wallfly's configs are exec'd prior to joining the server.  So things like "set spectator 1" work.  But this observer command doesn't work without being connected first.

For now, I have stuffed wallfly into observer manually.  GOTO seems to work.  But, wallfly may lose its observer status when the map changes (and definitely if the server restarts), dunno.

nope, doesn't work for me.  Goto & invite say "invalid command".  I checked & q2admin is installed on dday.

I found in the dday standalone install  it had special q2admin files setup & ready to use, so I put those on the server & restarted.  Can you set wallfly back up?  These might work.

That's just the mod refusing to 'say' commands by default.  Either type "say goto" from console, or use your talk key... :)

there's not many special binds.

There are a few actually. A fully decked out config is as advanced as Action Q2.

This is an abridged version of the autoexec.cfg that comes with version 4.1 of the mod. The only shout that I included was "shoulders" because in the invade maps it is a requirement to continue. You have to have someone sit back to act as a ladder. Sounds cheesy but it still makes for a fun game.


EDIT:

A few strategy tips.

 - M1 Garand is one of the most powerful weapons. It is 2 hits kill and very accurate.
 - If you have to run away, you're already dead. So try to take someone with you.
 - Don't hog classes. You are only allowed a specific amount of certain classes. If you suck at sniping, leave it open for a good railer.
 - Let the best player on your team take heavy MG or Officer. Both classes require a lot of foreknowledge to be used effectively.
 - If you run out of ammo you get a knife. You can throw the knife. If you've thrown it you can also remove your helmet and use it as a projectile. But DON'T FORGET that you've thrown it. Your helmet protects you from some head shots,  but if you throw it you are as good as dead.
 - Don't get Tom Hanks'd with explosions. You will get a ringing and a white blend effect sometimes. Get over it quickly.
 - Lastly, you can catch grenades and throw them back. BUT BE QUICK. You will generally be standing next to someone. A grenade that would only have killed YOU will probably kill a teammate as well if it goes off in your hands.

This mod was really fun.  Had never played it, it is essentially Day of Defeat but in Quake 2.  Fun and easy to play.

DDAY is a very old mod that predates most popular WW2 shooters and teamplay based shooters. It also has had significant influences in many of them. It was first invented as a tribute to an MMO style WW2 game that was announced but never finished. The idea of the MMO was that players that ranked General would see an RTS style game board and launch attacks accordingly. Their RTS style actions would directly affect players who were playing the soldiers. The RTS portion was limited, I think it only affected the place of battle and the number of troops. A DDAY server is supposed to work on the idea that if allies win then the map list continues forward, and if axis win the map list moves backwards. In our case, maplist was broken so I just used the admin hammer to move through the maps manually.
