That link is for v2.03 but the planetquake links to a v2.05 - I assume v2.03 will still work, no?

For the client, yeah, 2.03 will be fine. 2.04 and .05 were bot fixes and some security things for the server.

Don't forget to tune into the tastycast during the event for a play by play with strategy tips delivered by the coolest man to ever grace the earth with his presence... wait, Jack Nicholson was not available... Well I guess I'll be standing in.

Here are a few preliminary tips:

You're not going to be creating an autoexec.cfg for this mod. After you connect to a game, your client will execute autoawaken.cfg inside your quake2\awaken2 directory. So don't forget to add the following binds. It seems that you spawn with all of the following weapons on the server, so be sure to bind them.

bind m use chainsaw
bind n use ag manipulator
bind b use disc launcher
bind mouse2 +hook

Things to note:
There is an off hand grapple used with the usual command, +hook. This is the standard highspeed grapple. It has a minor physics differences than that of lithium or freeze tag. You are affected by gravity more so, but not significantly to change the strategy of using one.
Tractor beam traps (#6) are destructible. So keeping the jackhammer, pistol, uzi, or pistol equiped are good strategies to avoid traps.
C4 explodes on impact, even if sitting on the ground. So they make great trip mines. You detonate C4 by tapping your G key while they are already selected. If you are holding anther weapon, you will have to switch back to the C4 in order to detonate. Fortunately weapon switching has been sped up slightly.
The UZI (mac 10) is by far the most effective weapon. The firing rate on stronger weapons is extremely slow by comparison when taking the damage into accoint. A Mac 10 will mow someone down withing a second.
The Jackhammer is much less useful than it sounds. This game is so fast paced that a street sweeper is useless at long range, even for cleaning up an already wounded target. A pistol, mac10, or guass gun (on blaster mode) will clean up that resiliant bugger even before you can get your second shot off. IMO the pistol is stronger than the jackhammer.
The chainsaw is extremely useful for trapping people. One such situation is if someone survives a single shot from the guass gun blaster mode and traps himself in a corner.
Learn the powerups quickly. The beam reflector WILL kill you, and the hastes will clear a room before you know what even hit you.
The flame thrower is mostly useless. The flame only lasts for a limited time and is not particularly painful. The secondary mode for the flame thrower is extremely difficult to hit with.
The most important items are cells, rockets, and slugs. All powerful weapons use one or more of these types. Horde them, protect them, and find out where they spawn.
This game is extremely fast paced. There is no standing still. This is true even for dead bodies. All bodies will be gibs in less than 2 seconds.

That's about it. Pick up a mac 10 and clean house!

Well you do have a case. Besides the mortor gun Awaken2 and xenolith are insanely similar mods. Awaken 2 is more polished. Awaken 1 may even be older than xenolith, I'm not sure. Care to elaborate?... disagree?

thread hijacker Mono! I have been known to lay the c4 down in abundance...

I spent a great deal of time playing awaken 1 - great fun, but 2 is far smoother, and the dual func weaps are very cool, but take time to master. I always thought the spam factor was a bit heavy; see Mac-10.

Aw2 is configurable all from the menu, TDM, FFA, Assault and CTF modes, Bots that are really tough and great maps by Maric and cohorts.

I tried a few yrs back to get interest up but only a few really tried it long enough to begin understanding the weaps and such.

I never played xenolith, sorry. But it sure seems the crowd on the xatrix server would like it.
