I must say, it IS nice to play some MP on non-serious designed maps. To many games have everything calculated for DM only & it's not very exciting.

Join us Sunday April 12 at 9:00pm EST for Zaero DM!
Download:
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetquake/teamevolve/zaerodemo.zip
http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetquake/teamevolve/zaerodm.exe
(DM maps in .zip also available in attachment below)
This week's splatterfest will feature the deathmatch side of the oh so refined single player mod, Zaero. You may remember Zaero from such forum topics as
Coop 2
! Zaero is like a nice blend of Xatrix and Rogue. The single player maps are good, look excelent, and are honestly challenging. The new weapons and items are very interesting and make for some dynamic DM play.
You'll see the:
Flare Gun
IRED (Trip bombs)
Sniper Rifle
Sonic Cannon
and the A2k (kamakazi bomb belt)
The real strength of the mod however are the items:
Visor (for viewing security cams)
Plasma Shield
and the ever useful EMP nukes
When I say refined, these features are REFINED. The EMP nuke for example only affects weapons with electronic triggers! That means that you can fire the machinegun which is entirely mechanical while the chaingun cannot be fired because of it's electronic spinning mechanism. NOW THAT IS DEPTH!
There are tons of features and endless possibilities! Stay tuned and I'll update with more in depth descriptions or you can check out the
Official Manual

Now... with quadz's assistance... with GOTO! Just type "goto happyfriar" from any wallyfly invaded server & you'll magicly (not really) teleport (not really) to one of the random Q2 mods I'm running @ any given moment (it's not random)! Remember, when playing against friar,
. That way you can't accuse him of cheating to be that bad!

Here's the deathmatch pertinent information from the manual for quick reference:
Arsenal
There are a variety of new weapons now available to you in Zaero. Each has a particular advantage given the combat situation and some are designed with multiplayer in mind. By default many new weapons are setup on a multiselect system with existing Quake II weapons. Press a number key once or twice or use the inventory to select the weapons.
A2K: Made out of moulded high tensile plastic armour composite this highly experimental 'bomb suit' never made it into regular service. Development was abandoned when no safe way of detonating the bomb could be found; the user was often killed or severely maimed during operation. Has limited use in single player Zaero but could be a definite advantage in a crowded DM game.
EMP Nuke: The Electro-Magnetic Pulse Nuke emits a radial effect disabling all nearby electric devices within range. Effects last a limited period of time and prevent monsters and deathmatch opponents for using weapons with electronic circuitry. Fortunately the shotguns and machinegun is not effected. The frequency has been tuned to not effect user's own equipment.
Flare Gun: The gun is capable of propelling a flare canister across a large room. The canister will ignite its phosphor fuel after a time delay emitting an extremely bright light. Looking directly towards the flare can cause temporary blindness. Use these to stun your opponents before launching a coordinated attack.
IREDs: Infra-Red Explosive Devices can be attached to almost any solid surface and angle. A laser beam projects from the device moments after being set and when broken, results in an explosive shower of deadly shrapnel. These robust devices use a protective energy shield and cannot be removed once placed.
Sniper Rifle: This new weapon uses unknown research components captured during the Big War 20 years ago. Ultra-high velocity slugs are supercharged before launching from the barrel. The energy charging before firing enables the slug projectiles to pass through normally bullet-proof glass. Loud and deadly this baby comes ready equipped with a telescopic lens to take out your enemies before you even see the whites of their eyes.
Sonic Cannon: Standard equipment issue to Shock Occupancy Forces after the Big War, the SC operates in a ultra-high sound frequency range charging up with energy cells and toasting an entire area. The longer you charge, the bigger the area it will microwave. If you hear this thing cranking up run for your life or you might not have legs anymore!
Military Supplies
Collect these supplies whenever possible you are able to. Most items are stored in your inventory and can be selected for use with your inventory keys ([ & ] by default).
Flares IREDs
Ammo: There are two new ammo types: flares and IREDs. These two ammo types have a maximum limit of 30 you can carry at any one time.
Plasma Shield: A portable shield generator. This device will produce and maintain an impenetrable plasma shield which will last a limited period of time and remain stationary even after the operator leaves the vicinity.
Recon Visor: Positioned around some parts of the Stroggos structures are security cameras. Using this alien device you can patch into the surveillance network and view remote areas of the maps.
Special Objects
Auto cannons: Often positioned to protect open areas of the cities, these automated turrets scan back and forth for any signs of movement. Once they spot you watch out! Run for cover because they won't run out of ammo for a long, long time. They are often installed on the ceiling but sometimes rise up on platforms when triggered. They are fitted with rockets, chainguns or laser blasters.
Moveable crates: Like regular barrels, some of the crates found in Zaero are moveable and destroyable. Likewise with barrels, some are buoyant and may float when pushed into water. Use this to your advantage to make "stepping stones" across dangerous acid pools. These crates and barrels can be pushed with the "push" key (default is "home").
Security cameras: If using a Recon Visor you may be able to patch into these surveillance cameras and view remote areas of the map.
Game Options
Special options are available for user configurability of Zaero.
Server Variables
zdmflags: This variable follows a similar scheme to dmflags. Each bit of this variable enables/disables features of Zaero Deathmatch.
Add
To Enable
+1
No gl_polyblend = 0 penalty
Enabling this feature will remove damage penalties for players that turn off polyblend when they would normally be blinded by flares.
+2
Spawn Zaero items in Deathmatch
Enable this feature when you want to play Deathmatch with Zaero items on non-Zaero maps.
Default for this variable is 0.
Example 1:
"set zdmflags 1" will turn off the gl_polyblend penalty and not spawn Zaero items on non-Zaero maps.
Example 2:
"set zdmflags 3" will turn on both features.
Client Variables
zwepas: Under normal circumstances, some key bindings are double bound. For instance, both the Blaster and the Flare Gun are bound to the "1" key. Some players don't like this feature, so they can "set zwepas 0" to turn it off.
Default for this variable is 1.
Additional binds/important notes
Here's my set up
bind q "use push"
bind f "use plasma shield"
bind 1 "use flare gun; use blaster"
bind 2 "use sniper rifle; use shotgun"
bind 3 "use sonic cannon; use super shotgun"
bind g "use IRED; use grenades"
bind v "use A2k;use empnuke"
bind c "use visor"
Use push kicks players back and does 2 damage. If you duck and face slightly upwards while using it, it will have a little more kick than a railgun.
The plasma shield if something that you absolutely have to have a hotkey for. It places a temporary wall for cover. This is great when you're trapped in a room that's camped by a railgun and you have no cover. Just be careful because explosions and sniper rifle rounds go through plasma shields.
You'll notice that I manually added weapon switching in my config to make the flare gun, sniper rifle, IRED, and sonic cannon in easy reach.
I've placed the A2K (bomb belt) and emp nuke conveniently in reach for that special occasion where you need to disable players, or blow your self up.
Lastly the visor isn't always useful, except in 1 on 1 situations. I added a bind anyway. Press the button that you bound to "use visor" repeatedly to switch camera angles. Press esc to turn off the visor.

Awesome awesome stuff peewee, but I think the bulk of this week's event will be postponed to next week on account of it being Easter and I'm sure we all have people we'd like to enjoy some time with. So you can still hop on the xaero server and have fun, but the main coverage will be next week.
cheers all!
