Well this is a new one for me. At the company picnic there were 3-legged races and other silliiness. But I don't recall the nail-driving contest.

Great photo - my money would be torn between the 3rd and 4th lady in - the 3rd looks like the drummer from the monkeys, while the 4th looks pretty tough.

The 3rd lady is Micky Dolenz's grandmother. Clearly his drumming ability comes through genetics, as evidenced by the rhythmic hammering ability of this lady. Another rock reference in this photo is the use of "9 inch nails".

Before Wal-Mart there were guys like this. Every city had at least one. The formula was always the same. Buy low quality, disposable stuff and make it really cheap. And saturate advertisement on the radio, newspapers, flyers and on TV. Preferably with lots of gimmicks and brashness. This photo barely qualifies as vintage - 1960, but it was the last era before the big box stores and super chains would come to dominate the retail business.

Boy with his bicycle - 1907. The bikes I owned in the late 50s were exactly this design. The only difference was the front fender extended farther up the top of the wheel. And rubber pedals. Otherwise they got it right back in 1907.

Old building festooned with signs - 1910. Cheap suits and overcoats, but all wool. Itchy....

Hubba hubba...look at the gams on that one. Ladies in shorts strolling down the boulevard, causing male turmoil in 1937. Watch out for that fire hydrant...

Thanks DaHang. I try to select photos that have at least some originality or historical meaning. It's surprising how good the quality is in these old City Archive pictures.

It appears to be a reflection off the polished granite of the corner post supporting the window. Probably something off another building across the street.

I'm talking about the picture with the bike in it. I'm sure it's either the flash or the sun bouncing off a mirror inside. I just think it's funny that a vintage picture with a Bike that looks similar to bikes today has a glare that looks like a television. Making it seem like a fake picture. I'm sure it's not, but it's kind of funny if it is and the person who took it left a television in the frame.

But tvs weren't around in 1907.
