Something a bit different. By vintage I mean old, black and white and has something nostalgic about it. Not just a shot of an old building. I found a few interesting ones in the digital archives section of my city's on-line history area.

Lol.... so much for trying to start an artistic detour.

Here's one of past times. The guys who ran the power structure at city hall in 1935. All white, all old, all very similar in demeanour - all in hats. Conformity was important then. The clarity of some of these old b&w photos is pretty good.

I'm sure Toronto has a historical society, they'd have LOTS of neat stuff. I know someone who works @ the local historical society, sometimes they get some really interesting stuff. IE we found out the state highway used to run right through the middle of our town! No body knew that!

A street scene from 1901. Streets used to be more tree-lined then, compared to today. Note the use of wood sidewalks. Concrete is more durable but wood is more charming.

Thanks Gator. I'm trying to keep them generic, so they could be a picture from anywhere in US/Canada. Well maybe the northern parts (no palm trees). It's more the feel and atmosphere of the times. And the fact that there is artistic merit to some of this stuff.

Looking south to the big city - 1908. The hilly area has all vanished from re-grading and paving new roads. The house on the corner was replaced with a series of gas stations when automobiles arrived. When they wanted to tear down the last gas station and build some townhomes (1980s) they found that the soil was saturated with gasoline and was a toxic hazard. To this day no one can build there without millions of dollars of soil remediation. So it remains a parking lot.

Are they vintage? Like way back to the 90's and stuff? Actually we used to have an old thread somewhere of funny Quake2 shots. Start one of those....
