Holy fucking sheep shit, batman. That's one boss hog.

http://news.yahoo.com/giant-hog-boar-hunter-caught-500-pounds-133815315.html

Looks like he's using some kinda AR platform rifle modded out the wazoo with forward grip and high powered night vision or thermal optics. I'd say he brought too much gun for hunting pigs... but when THAT'S what the fuck he shoots... I mean... GOD DAMN! Just plain old GAWD DAYAMN! :D

Kennedy Space Center is on a wildlife preserve.  The wild hogs are so plentiful that they are a problem.  They have some guy who is contracted to hunt a certain amount of hogs each year (I'm sure it is a large number).  I worked late last night so I saw two trucks with dogs in the back riding slow down one of the main roads spotlighting the ditches.  I'm sure it is easy hunting, and they have some very large hogs out there.

As far as I know, there is NO LIMIT on wild pigs in all 50 states. As many as you wanna shoot in a day every single day of the week is 100% legal. However, I do think that spotlight hunting is somewhat illegal, it just depends. The light can be attached to your hat or belt or carried, but not attached to a vehicle. And hunting them from a vehicle is definitely illegal. Hunting them from the roadside is HIGHLY illegal.

I'm pretty sure these guys have been hired to come on KSC and thin out the hogs.  They get paid and get the hogs.

I swear the bacon aspect of that has been discussed here before.

As far as lights while hunting, not allowed to have anything that emits light in Ohio.

The shooting from a vehicle, I watched an episode of Insomniac with Dave Attell where he hung out with a guy who had the job of shooting little furry creatures along some canal or drain.  He sat in the back of a pickup with a suppressed .22 rifle and a light.  I guess those rules go out the window when you're working for the government :)

Well it depends on the circumstances. For a nuisance animal like wild pigs, you can use lights at night in Georgia as long as it's not mounted on a truck or ATV. Whereas hunting deer with lights in Georgia is against regulations. That's because the deer population is better managed, they don't damage the landscape like pigs do, and there's less of them,... whereas pigs reproduce like fucking rats and cockroaches, and they tear the shit out of any land they hang out on long enough.

Dunno about the meat. Never been brave enough to eat it. Personally, I'd advise a person against it. The Georgia DNR has specific warnings in the regulation booklets concerning handling pigs you've hunted. They often carry all kinds of nasty diseases and viruses that can pass to humans. If you're gonna do it, you better make sure it's WELL DONE or else you might find yourself shitting your tonsils out in the emergency room.

Walther PPQ is a nice one. Guy in the neighborhood that I target shoot with sometimes is a cop and his main everyday sidearm is a 40cal PPQ. Has a really easy and smooth trigger action to it. One thing I like about the Glocks and Walthers are the flat front trigger guards that let you keep a firm grip with the left hand for steadier, quicker, more accurate repeated shots at longer ranges.

I carry a Taurus 32 magnum snubby 6-shot revolver. Also carry one speedloader just in case I gotta say "oh shit" twice. Shoulder holster is the only way to carry concealed in GA, so I like something compact. I could move up to something larger like a 45acp, but I'm a lot more accurate and comfortable with a 32, and that's my main concern. I'd rather hit someone 5-6 times out of 6 with my Taurus 32 than 5-6 times out of 10 with a 45auto.

Honestly, I'm surprised it's taken THIS long to develop this system into something usable. The 50 cal Barrett is barely even a "rifle", it's more like a very small portable artillery cannon, and it's the only thing large enough for this technology to be usable in currently. They make high explosive tipped rounds for it that are capable of penetrating steel plating on light armored vehicles. You'd probably rather be hit with a rocket that'll blow your whole vehicle apart and kill you instantly rather than one of those 50 cal HE tips which'll just tear a hole through the side and then ping pong all around the inside of the capartment you're sitting in. At which point you'll be stone deaf AND wounded, resembling swiss cheese.

They've also been heavily investing in more intelligent optics for regular caliber rifles. Optics that have sensors which detect humidity, air pressure, wind speed, distance, angle of incline/decline, etc. and then automatically indicate where the operator should aim to hit the target. Basically very fancy, smaller versions of civilian hunting rangefinders. I think as part of the project they've also even been attempting to rig them to automatically slightly adjust the muzzle to stay on target longer too. I'm not hugely concerned about what this means for warfare in the future, shit like killer robots. These systems are gonna cost so fucking much that it'll be impossible for even the most wealthy nation to field a fuck-ton of them.

I really don't think they're a very wise investment either, at least for a HUGE number of them. They would help at longer distances I suppose, but most combat situations these days are gonna be urban settings at closer distances where any idiot trained with their weapon properly could conceivably use NO optics and still be accurate.

smart bullets imho can only be usefull for precision hits (cost of the ammo) , one shot one kill thing. Snipers and anti-air.

Holy Shit,   Just found out Ohio is an open carry state.

I've seen it done a few time in the past but just assumed they were law enforcement or something.

Not that I'm gonna go out and do it regularly,  but nice to know if I wanted to for one reason or another I could.
I don't think I can get my CHL because of a stupid drug charge 15 years ago otherwise this wouldn't be as exciting :)

Looking into if I can get that charge removed for being a good boy ever since then, and if that would even matter if I did.
I'm sure a sheriff looking into your background can get an entirely different picture than your average employer.

The Florida Wildlife Commision is considering the use of silencers on hunting weapons.

Thoughts ?

It's always been that if you mymap and disconnect before the map goes live, it's deleted from the queue.

Occasinally, someone will stick around until their map loads, and THEN disconnect, which is not appreciated. (Currently the only recourse is a full mute, as there's no provision for blocking just mymap usage.)

At least these days, the chosen map has to be roughly compatible with the number of players active on the server. (No more mapping sewer64 on a 3-player server; etc.)

Any way to prevent people from trolling with mymap? By that I mean they join the server, mymap a map, then immediately discconnect, forcing whoever's playing to play a map that nobody there necessarily wanted to play in the first place. Maybe have it check to see if the player who issued the command
