Hank Williams: why did you say a subnet ban wouldn't work?
+one: but im sure thats what i'll get
vandal: because i can mask my subnet
vandal: i can mask my mac address
vandal: if it came to that
vandal: besides youd hafta really be a wanker
vandal: to report me im cool
vandal: lol
(*then color me wanker, Mr. Cool Guy)

One can't "mask" a subnet (unless he means using a proxy); however his subnet does change periodically, as is common these days.

But his hostname so far is always *

AC has been forced on his current IP. (That won't hold very long but it's a start.)

It may be worthwhile forcing his name to "vandal" so he can't hide behind aliases. OK, that's done now, and will hold until his subnet changes.

Quake / Re: I need some help making my server function properly
« on: January 08, 2014, 06:02:10 PM »
I have rented a server.  I have built the quake2 (I exclusively compile my software Stallman).

Hopefully you've compiled r1q2 or q2pro. The original Quake2 3.21 source release is buggy and full of security holes.

1v1 and TDM Demos / Re: Random Friendly Duels by ADZ!LARAWWR
« on: November 20, 2013, 10:50:27 AM »
yea i used to be on the fence and thought adzilla cheated also for a while. i think i may have accused him a couple of times. although he has been at quakecon ctf championships and was a finalist, , also watching demos, so that pretty much proves to me that he's legit. naymlis was also at quakecon. adzilla has the proof he was there too. basic logic suggests that if that many people play better, then i just suck at the mod.

i also believe naymlis when he stated he was there. they are just elite players and better than us at duel. case closed. apologies to faderjok haunted and Vae for accusing them in the past as well. they are just top players. took me a while to realize it. you really have to have some time in the mod to understand it.

i guess my pride was too big for me to admit.  also they haven't been dogging me lately, so it makes it's much easier to admit when you're wrong about something when you're not being called out all the time. " it's easier to fool someone, than it is to convince someone they have been fooled" kind of thing.

Obviously we'll be investigating who hacked into Golgo's account and faked this perfectly reasonable post.

Trouble Shooting / Re: Problem with joining servers.

Any chance you could check the same for me? Near as I can tell my anticheat is working, but I can't connect anywhere.

Old subnet ban. You should be able to connect now.

Ever since yesterday, I haven't been able to join any tastyspleen quake 2 servers apart from dm 1-8 & vanilla.

I'm surprised there's a difference between dm/vanilla vs. the other servers, as they all use the same AC/ban config.

But yes, your IP is now within a forced-AC subnet. Did you change ISPs? You used to be *, now you're *

Anyway, the simplest/ideal solution would be to get AC working on your system. Which Operating System does your computer run?

Bot Drop / Re: a newbie named "chaos"

Ah. Prior alias was "krogulce" or "kro".

AC forced on two subnets.

For the last couple of months the tastyspleen regular DM q2 servers have been very unstable.  Lots of lag, ping bouncing up and down.

1. Please don't spam the same post in multiple boards. (I've deleted the others.)

2. I play on dm and vanilla daily and the gameplay seems smooth and the netgraph shows a flat, green line.

What does your netgraph look like?

Trouble Shooting / Re: Kicked from game on connect?

please, remove the bann

OK, the ban is removed. Hopefully the coop server does not begin mysteriously crashing again while you are connected.

Good luck!

Trouble Shooting / Re: kicking from the game
« on: September 17, 2013, 03:53:13 AM »

Please, stop kicking me from the game

You were banned back in June, when the admin of the coop server reported that you would idle there, not playing, and whenever you were connected the coop server would soon crash.

Your IP appears to resolve to Kazakhstan (* so I presume English may not be your first language.

Can you explain why you were idling on the coop server, but not playing the game?

The server logs show you idled for weeks in January, then again in June.

Quake / Re: 2d/Lord got robbed

Would be nice if the whole new maps thing could be barred as well.  I mean come the fuck on, at least let a person play a map a couple times before being thrust into it directly.  How is that even fair?

"Buy the ticket, take the ride."

But again...where's console?  :p

Hmm, was going to create a Wordle from the past n months of Dafremen's in-game chat, but Wordle is a Java applet. (And I've disabled the Java web browser plug-in due to its propensity to be vulnerable to nasty security exploits.)

Bot Drop / Re: Gunner bot

Gunner was on *

Forced AC on his current IP for now.

That ISP looks like a mishmash of dynamic IPs across multiple subnets. Not sure how soon his IP is going to change drastically.

If there is some way we can set up a situation where you monitor me in the future, I would like to use the alias, "crater". Thanks.

You should be able to connect as "crater" now.

Happy fragging!

I don't remember which name I used, nor does it matter.

Not sure quite why you'd phrase it that way. The reason it matters relates to your rather unique situation of connecting from a banned subnet. Obviously we would like to prevent the banned player from regaining access, and so information that could help establish that you are not that individual would be useful.

Note that our Q2 servers do not require anticheat by default. We try to make it as easy as possible for the majority of players to connect to our servers.

Having someone connecting from a banned subnet who can't get AC working and who used to play here but who can't provide any prior playernames is something of an extreme rarity.

Nevertheless, here we are.

  *  *  *

An option I've been considering would be add an exception to the subnet ban for a single playername of your choosing.

With your playername being consistent, admins and interested players would be able to spectate your gameplay, providing some level of assurance that the player who was banned for cheating has not regained access.
