Trouble Shooting / Sounds bug (player sounds not playing)

How do I make a player whose sounds I do not have (e.g. he is using a skin called "asdasd/sfdsdf") make typical male sounds? When you shoot people, the sound generated is linked to players/<model_name>/pain#_#.wav. However, if you do not have the model (as in the above example of "asdasd"), you cannot hear the sounds. How do I force any non-male or female players to use the default player sounds.

edit: I checked more and it only occurs if you do not have the player model; if he uses male/qwerty you still hear the sounds. Also, I tested with s_show "1" and it shows that the players/<any_unknown_model>/<any_sound>.wav does not play; including falling sounds.

This guy, "TheFarter", has a really nice aim! He can even hit players when he isn't even facing them :P . He is such a n00b that he can only beat me by a couple frags the previous map and he ends up winning by 2 in q2dm1.


(Demo taken around 2240 EDT on DM server. I can provide a demo of q2dm8, but it is in 1st-person perspective. Anyway, I think this is enough evidence :lolsign: .)

Quake / Player sounds in more than one location?

Should player sounds go in the "/players" directory or in the "/sound/player" directory? pak0.pak has all its sounds in the "/sound/player" directory, including two subdirectories called "male" and "female" with the corresponding pain sounds in them :humm: ! However, my "/players" directory contains all the vweps, and a lot of duplicate sounds from the "/sound/player" directory :P .

edit: I also just noticed that I have a sound called "bump1.wav" in my "/players/male" directory but not in my "/players/female" directory, and the drown sound is called "drown.wav" in the "/players/female" directory but is also called "drown1.wav" in the "/players/male" directory.

My ISP seems to have completely re-routed me and now my netgraph is a bunch of these "ramps" of ping :( . I ran a tracert and a ping and you can see how my ping starts low then rises up around 150 ms before dropping right back down.

Quake / Toning down weapon sounds

Does anybody have a pak where the weapon sounds are toned down? Right now I have volume set so when I shoot it is about as loud as I can stand, but I can barely hear the stimpack pickups when I am standing by the bullets!

On several euro servers that I sometimes play on (and they have forced anticheat) I will start skipping for a moment because of my lag and then I get this message:

I've started getting near 100% server to client packet loss. I typed "lag <some_other_player>" and they all have 0% to .5% server to client pl.
It is really annoying because players appear to move in spurts and teleport when they are near me. I also commonly cannot see/hear rockets until I blow up :( .
What could be causing it?

This topic is mainly for all those people who say that I can't rail worth anything (true) and really would suck with a ping of "more than 50" (VaeVictis mainly is the one who says this).

This demo is me railing with a ping that kept jumping between 150 and 250 against some relatively good ra2 players like Stealth and BuD.Denl82. So yes, I can rail with a high ping.

Last night I was playing with epitaph against mandingo (eeniemeanie) and kyuss. Partway through, mandingo jumps on the lift when I have blaster, rides up with me, I run off down the upper-rl walk and he rails me off the end. I almost cratered against the wall :lol: . Heheheh I didn't think it was possible to crater against a wall, but I guess if you are moving fast enough....

edit: The second demo is where I chopped out a large chunk of the first demo that was just chat. However, it got skins all messed up.
