OK, so I went ahead and upgraded. :)

So, by upgrading you went from a 49 ping to a 18 ping?

Oh my! :purpleshock:

Keep nades on the rail server, it is fun to see someone with the mighty rail run from me when they hear my nade pumping up  :lolsign:

I'm new here but I have to agree with what I have read - Vae is a douche.

I got some of it yesterday.  I like to throw nades but I am a descent railer also.
I played Vae and beat him, did I get a gg, no I got "that is the first game I have lost all day", "you only won because I'm worn out", "don't kid yourself, your not that good"

I agree, I'm nothing special.  The sad part is you lost to someone like me, what does that say about your level.

Welcome Mouse! I had fun nading with you the other day on the gym map. Keep nading bro.     :bomb:

Poll so far suggests people like sitting in a corner somewhere tossing their balls around  :bigcry: :bigcry:

The poll does not suggest that. I love nades, but I never sit in a corner on the rails server. I move around plenty. Much more fun that way.

By the way, 14 to 2 for nades is pretty overwhelming.      :bomb:  :righteous:

And,  I think there is a command to turn footstep sounds on and off.

I never knew it till I saw it in some auto-cfg maker back in 04-05.
But when I discovered it turned enemy footsteps off as well as your own I changed it back.

cl_footsteps 0 is off, but indeed also your opponents steps would be gone..

I remember having an argument with Col Kurtz years ago about this. He couldn't understand that I heard his footsteps, even though he had turned them off. I told him I had them turned on, and his settings did not affect mine, but he accused me of some kind of hack. It was easy to get into an argument with Kurtz tho.

I love using nades! Most games I use the rail, but I've had the most fun on that server using nades. It's not easy hitting someone with a nade, but they make for some of the funniest frags I've ever seen.

Quake / Re: q2 duel cup
« on: June 29, 2010, 08:26:44 AM »
i just finished watching the cup final between naymlis and adren and i have to say i was dissapointed. i watched a few earlier games and there were alot of quits and giving up during the matches, and it made it somewhat unattractive. i know most will say its just a game and who cares but these guys r supposed to be some of the best and it was a big event, all u have to do is look at the names that turned out like purri, so lets be honest anyone who plays games online comptetivley has to have some competitivness in their nature, i know i do, and to watch people give up like that was dissapointing

I think this happened for two reasons. One, this was a new tournament started to try to "get the ball rolling". Some of us joined to help fill it up, have fun, and make it successful enough to spur a next one. I am not a dm player (plenty of evidence of that around), and barely competitive in FFA and Railz. I just wanted to do my part to help. I had fun playing with and against members of the Tastyspleen community.

Second, since it was a very time sensitive tourney, you will see different skill levels and uneven matches at times. This was not intended to be a highly competitive tournament that runs for weeks like the Euros have. You have to start somewhere. I felt the Silentgamers and Tastycast folks did an awesome job given the circumstances. I was happy to be involved.  (Kudos to Quadz for his help also)   :bravo:

Hopefully there will be another similar tournament. Perhaps it could have pro and non-pro levels with an extended time frame.

Currently I believe the silentgamer servers have adopted the same hashes we're using on tastyspleen, for the tourney.

Mainly this locks down player, weapon, and item models, and some key sounds like footsteps and railgun hum.

There will probably be some further tweaks (for example, another thread mentioning a problem with the crakhor model hash.)

I'd recommend connecting to the various servers to test them out with your setup.  Servers are listed here:

http://www.silentgamers.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=137:q2cup1&catid=41:frontpage-news

(The dallas and jersey ones are hosted on tastyspleen.)

Regards,

quadz

I checked all the silent gamer servers last night (ping 12 on the NJ one, although that won't help me) and I didn't show any issues. A few months ago I had to remove a few step wavs to end the issues on tastyspleen. I have a few paks, brightskins I think, crosshairs, and something with offending step wav files,  and I show the same clean status on tastyspleen and silent gamers.

Let the games begin!      :rocketright:    :rocketleft:

Jose, no sweat. You could win this thing equipped only....

...with a stick!

Thank you peewee, my friend. However I fear I do not have a big enough stick.

I shall sign up because I'd like to see this tournament full and run to it's completion ... (cough ... Naymlis wins   :righteous: ...  cough). My main concern is being able to make the prescribed time.  If someone with mad skills decides to sign up after teh closure, I wouldn't mind letting them slide into my slot. If not, I shall be there with grenades ticking and railgun humming!     :bomb:

Let the games begin!

My 1 on 1 skill level would dictate a very early exit for me, but I will sign up if I'm needed to fill a spot. Do you have a deadline?

I hope this goes well, and good luck to all who enter!

Hey folx. Led Pez here..Quake2 philosopher and preacher.

A quick story:

There was a guy many years back named T-Bird. He was in the now defunct (I believe) clan [EMR]. He asked me about improving his game...about this course I've been teaching on and off for many years called Quake2 Kung Fu. In particular he was curious about the config. I started to explain it to him by explaining what the finger positions are. He responded by telling me that he didn't have any fingers. I thought he was pulling my leg. But he swore he wasn't...and he wasn't. T-Bird has no hands. He was born with arms only..up to the forearm. He has no legs. Just stumps that end at his thighs.

He played by resting his forearm on the mouse and rolling it left or right to push the two buttons. His other forearm rested on the arrows keys. That was his way of interfacing with this world...our community. And he was really, really good considering the challenges that he faced. But that wasn't all...and this is the point of the story. To T-Bird..this game was his chance to walk again. To run again. To jump again. This game, and games like it..had given him back his freedom to some extent..and you could tell by his attitude that every single day..he was just f---ing grateful to be able to PLAY this game..let alone win a map.

We're all very lucky to have this game..a place to escape to. And we're very lucky to have each other to play against. Unfortunately, we're almost universally oblivious to the fact that each of us is dependent on the other players in this game to really have a game at all.

Anyhow that's my 2 cents worth stretched out to a buck fifty. We all kick ass.

Post of the year, my friend.      (Makes me think of Hitme also.)

While I sometimes like to use powerups (except quad) and win on occasion, if I'm not having fun, I go do something else. I may be guilty of using Hand grenades too much at times,  :bomb:  but we've had some of the most hilarious games on the Railz server with them. Last night we played an awesome game on the map with the bouncing pad in the middle. Tons of targets bouncing, and tons of mid-air explosions. Skills are great, but fun is what's most important to me.   We all rock!    :righteous:

That's hilarious. I love hand grenades, especially with quad. A quad, suicide hand grenade is big fun.

shitty 2nd rate sex toys in the fist place.

Interesting typo?      :erhmmm:

The pepper votes no to forced anti-cheat on the servers. Quadz is handling things quite well.   :bravo:

Perhaps you should request a new DM server be created with forced anti-cheat?

sidelines plays an awful lot like daelmun

He does and has a similar ping, but I thought his IP is from somewhere else. Last week when we had finished playing for the night he said, "GGs Mate". Did daelmun ever say that? (I miss him. great guy)
