q2 duel cup

i just finished watching the cup final between naymlis and adren and i have to say i was dissapointed. i watched a few earlier games and there were alot of quits and giving up during the matches, and it made it somewhat unattractive. i know most will say its just a game and who cares but these guys r supposed to be some of the best and it was a big event, all u have to do is look at the names that turned out like purri, so lets be honest anyone who plays games online comptetivley has to have some competitivness in their nature, i know i do, and to watch people give up like that was dissapointing

I think this happened for two reasons. One, this was a new tournament started to try to "get the ball rolling". Some of us joined to help fill it up, have fun, and make it successful enough to spur a next one. I am not a dm player (plenty of evidence of that around), and barely competitive in FFA and Railz. I just wanted to do my part to help. I had fun playing with and against members of the Tastyspleen community.

Second, since it was a very time sensitive tourney, you will see different skill levels and uneven matches at times. This was not intended to be a highly competitive tournament that runs for weeks like the Euros have. You have to start somewhere. I felt the Silentgamers and Tastycast folks did an awesome job given the circumstances. I was happy to be involved.  (Kudos to Quadz for his help also)   

Hopefully there will be another similar tournament. Perhaps it could have pro and non-pro levels with an extended time frame.

I don't see what's wrong with this or how this is unattractive. If you know the odds are against you, why bother letting the game play out farther when you can go to the next map and save everybody time?

so adrenaline=focus=purri, yet adrenaline v. naymlis had no chance of being interesting...str1ker is amazing....and dahang/scooby are categorized with people on the same level? thanks for the insight vaevictus.

purri has a style that doesnt end up so great on a high ping, and hes a little inactive at the moment, so with him playing on USA servers, yes adren = focus = purri

naymlis is an active top tier dueler, he isnt as good as dahang or scooby but hes still really amazing and will beat the hell out of even our good players

i was over generalizing groupings of players yes, but some grouping is better than none for what my point actually was, getting players who are really good like adren and focus to play against players who are pro isnt an even match.. we need more pros this cup had a pretty bad turn out of impressive names, if some of names i mentioned showed up then players like adren and focus would be knocked out fairly early rather than making it to finals

the most entertaining matches to watch for me were adren vs focus because they are really even players, now if we could get that even skill, only on a higher tier like maybe dahang vs scooby that would be one hell of a tourney

so if the odds are against you at all times, might as well not even play? Anything can happen. I see people lose all the time that shouldn't.

A couple admins have recommended shortbus for vae on several occasions.

In the past, I'd objected because I had a distinction in mind between someone who was systematically, deliberately trolling, vs. more like

in vae's case.

But yeah, it's getting pretty annoying.
