ya they are set by default to select the weapon rather than drop it.  The thing is if you hit one of the keys you bound to the next modifier they will change to whatever that may be until you hit the key to get back to the default ones.  I would suggest tryign them in a new config like test.cfg and exec test.cfg from console and try them out before putting them in your config.

Sure here is the rest of my config for team binds.  Also for the positon binds you need a seperate .cfg file named after the map for it to work.  I wouldnt worry about that part yet but I will post one below incase you are intrested.

Fanny the problem with the player ID's is known and suppose to be fixed in next beta.  I have seen a few others with the same pID as me since the day we discovered it was a problem.  I will be the first to admit q2a isnt perfect, but it is far from unplayable.

Use your instincs, gut feelings, if you suspect it of someone and they come off as someone you wouldnt put it past to cheat, you'r instincts are probaly right.

sounds like good ol witch hunts

Sounds like a bad analogy.

Cheating is basically unstoppable even with q2a.  John Carmack himself said there is no way possible to stop it and I dont think EP is a better programmer than him.  At the very least it will give people some sense that there is a good chance who they play isnt cheating, but its still uncertain.  Im all for making it harder though, its the least we can do.

And everkill is right, iv found out about way to many people back in the old days that cheated that nobody ever knew they did, they were just thought of as some of hte better players.  If you use an aimbot and turn down the FOV very low like 5 there is really no way to spot it with the naked eye.  Even frame by frame on demo you cant tell, because the demo doesnt record every frame and you can try it yourself on your own demo's and see rail shots hit not exactly where your crosshair is.  Granted this wont make someone hit every shot, but when you take a player who already has a very good rail and give them that little extra advantage they hit all the shots they should miss by just a little.  And the wallhack is just as hard to spot if they dont make it very obivious, they just look like someone who is good at predicting where someone is from sounds and instincts.

I would bet money that at least a few of the top known players right now do indeed cheat.  You would have to be extremely naive to think that none of them do.  Especially the ones with the bad attitudes, inflated ego's, and horrible in game manners.  Do you really think some of those guys who are just complete assholes, wont team with people unless they know there team will win, take the game way to serious, wouldnt hesitate to use cheats if they have ones that work and can get away with it?  I almost think I can spot a cheater just by the person's general attitude, basically if you think, ya that guys an ass, takes the fun out of the game, is way to competitive, and plays almost unhuman like, and usually cant get q2a to work, you really think they will honor everyone else by playing fair if they get the chance not to?

To quote John Carmack
Quote
I'm sure I will catch some flack about increased cheating after the source release, but there are plenty of Q2 cheats already out there, so you are already in the position of having to trust the other players to a degree. The problem is really only solvable by relying on the community to police itself, because it is a fundamentally unwinnable technical battle to make a completely cheat proof game of this type. Play with your friends.

To be honest I dont think you can ever expect to have a cheat free tourney online, I have accepted this fact many years ago.  And even some of the people you hold the utmost respect for can and will get caught cheating at some point.  All I can say is dont make it easy for them. If forcing q2a will even deter just 1 person from cheating whether they end up playing cheat free or just not playing at all then its worth it to me.

And there really is no huge difference in the clients when it comes down to it, if your good your good, you will beat the same people you are capable of beating with any client.  And any hardcore 1vs1 or tdm player should actually like q2a, its made by and oldschool gx'er with them in mind and in my opinion, anti cheat part of the client aside, its the best client out there for 1vs1/tdm players anyway.  The only part of r1q2 that really has any significance is the new network code, and just about any serious q2 player i have know that uses it usually sets cl_async 0 to get it to feel right which in turn disables that new network code anyway.  The directinput mouse is maybe something to want to use it for, but q2a has the exact same mouse code as nocheat as far as m_accel 0 setting and m_accel 2 are concerned.

Sorry for the long rant but iv just been playing this game way to long, and  have seen way to many people I have had respect for as players only to later find out they just cheated.  And seeing people act like its something people dont do, or could be easy to tell if they did do it, is just something that needs to be know that it happens and you cant tell.  Use your instincs, gut feelings, if you suspect it of someone and they come off as someone you wouldnt put it past to cheat, you'r instincts are probaly right.

I find the binds from the other thread that use the variables to be the easiest to actually use in game, just harder to configure without some help if you dont understand how they work.

Basically you create toggle keys that once pressed cycle your keys to a new set of binds.  For expample every key I use to USE a weapon is the same key i use to drop that weapon.  Here is part of my config that pretty much explains how they work and you can create endless sets of binds from this once you get the idea how it works.

/MODIFIER KEYS THESE ARE THE KEYS YOU USE TO CHANGE 3 SETS OF BINDS

set modifier1 "0"

bind MOUSE2 "set modifier1 0"
bind MOUSE4 "set modifier1 1"
bind Mouse5 "set modifier1 2"

So here I have bound mouse2 to give me my default binds(modifier1 0), like mwheelup is my use rocket launcher, mwheel down use chaingun, ect... the basic key layout.

Next is mouse4 set to modifier1 1, now all my key binds can have a new bind after its pressed which i use to drop the weapon and some ammo rather than use that weapon.  My 3rd modifier bound to mouse5 I only have a few binds set, and have plenty of room to add stuff if i ever think of anything i need.

The reason this is so great is you can fit everything you need within easy reach, basically keep all the same 8 or so binds you may use now on a regular basis and triple the amount of function you get out of them.  I cant stress how much easier this is then having keys bound all over the keyboard when in fast paced action trying to do stuff.

So here is what a few of my key binds look like so they can hold 3 different binds per key.

lias RL "RL_$modifier1"
alias "RL_0" "use rocket launcher"
alias "RL_1" "drop rocket launcher; say_team $blu DROPPED RL @ $loc_here [;drop rockets"
alias "RL_2" "drop rockets; wave 1"

alias CG "CG_$modifier1"
alias "CG_0" "use machinegun; use chaingun"
alias "CG_1" "drop chaingun; drop machinegun; say_team $blu DROPPED CG/MG ] $loc_here [;drop bullets"
alias "CG_2" "drop bullets; wave 1"

Now dont get confused because of the alias's, these are my use rocket launcher and use chaingun binds and also makes the same keys (in this case not really keys my mouse wheel) able to drop these weapons.  The alias must be first defined as a modifier (alias CG "CG_$modifier1"), now alias CG can be toggled between CG_0, CG_1, CG_2 by using the modifier keys i bound above in the first examlple form my config. Each with a seperate meaning.  I know it may seem like alot at first but its really quite simple, and acutally a whole lot easier to use in game once setup then getting new keys all over the place.  Its much easier to find the drop chain gun key when its already a common key for you to use chaingun.  Hope this makes sense and I would be glad to help if I can.

Its been many years since I did hardware stuff so my memory is a little rusty.  What type of hard drives are you running reg IDE/dma, ata or scsi?  My first thought is the the jumper setting of none for the slave, this is normally cable select and I found with alot of drive combos it doesnt work well, try setting it to slave.  Make sure you boot drive is on the end of the cable if your using them both on one channel.  Or if using a seperate cable for each put the master on the primary on your mobo and the slave on the secondardy.   If they are plugged in this way DISK 0 in your cmos should be your new HD, make sure its the first hard disk in the boot order, the only one actually.  Normally your boot order will go FLOPPY, CDROM,  DISK 0, ect.. your pc should not even being attempting to boot form that slave drive so it must be set wrong.

You can also change drive letter assigment in windows xp/2k from the disk management tool, in xp you can right click on my computer, goto manage and you will see it there.  Just right click on a drive and there is an option to change drive letter.

To make it really easy, I would start out with only the new master drive hooked up, just leave the slave unplugged.  Boot from your XP cd and let it format and partition your drive the way you want it.  I normally just make 1 partition for the OS and leave the rest as one big drive, but its up to you.  After you have xp installed and your pc is up and running, then plug in that second slave drive to IDE2 or second plug from the end of your IDE cable.  I would get anti virus and anti spyware setup first on the newly formatted drive with clean XP install before you hook that old one back up, just incase you still have a problem on it that will reinfect your system.  After you copy any must have files off it, format that slave in windows.

Does the monitor say in stand-bye mode?  If it does then its not getting a signal and is normally hardware related not software.  Most common problem is vid card just needs re-seeded, just pull it out and put it back in and try it.  If its not hte vid card try the same thing with the ram.  If all else fails try booting the pc without a vidcard and see if you get a beep code, make sure your PC speaker is hooked up so you could hear them.  If still nothing or any beeps without a vid card try removing the ram and vid card and power up, should get a beep code.   If you find the piece of hardware that will let the machine beep with it removed, that is most likely the piece of hardware causing your problem.
