q2 Evolution

When i download quake 2 evolution it changes the  config file, i really dont feel like changing all my etting back , is there any way i can copy and paste my config for quake 2 Evolution?

quake2 evolved uses a q2econfig.cfg file,

Quake2 Evolved is an old and dead client, was also very buggy and unoptimized
I would use something more current

R1Q2 is the best client out there right now, it might not have bump mapping and other gimmick features, but it sure has excellent multiplayer performance.

What makes you think that R1Q2 is the best client? Because most players use it?

This is not to offend the author of R1Q2, but everybody has different preferences, and sometimes people simply do not know anything but what they are used to...

For me, there are many reasons why I prefer AprQ2:

1) AprQ2 has always compiled easily, both for Windows and for Linux; by contrast, R1Q2 was hard to compile for Linux some time ago and now still is for Windows because the source code does not come with some essential things like zlib etc.

2) AprQ2 has more nice little features that I would not like to miss:
- on-screen clock (not the console clock, but a small on-screen clock), colour can be changed: I like such a clock because I sometimes play in the dark and want to see what time it is
- coloured console text and nick name highlighting etc.

3) AprQ2 has a really, really good ignore command (ignorenick) which easily and efficiently filters out an annoying player

4) AprQ2 has (just like most other q2 clients except R1Q2) a working line wrap in chat texts or notify text lines; but R1Q2 cuts long lines and you cannot read all the text! Very very annoying! This is relevant if you use something like gl_scale 2 in order to get better readable/bigger text. - I wonder why this feature still didn't make it into R1Q2...

5) AprQ2 for Linux has full sound support while R1Q2 basically just offers OSS sound which prevents ALSA users from having sound mixing: A Linux R1Q2 user can only hear the game sounds OR listen to music OR hear instant messenger sounds etc. because R1Q2 doesn't offer sound support for ALSA or sdl (well, in my case, this is not really important because I managed to compile my own R1Q2 with built-in sdl sound, but anyway).


6) AprQ2 has excellent widescreen support with automatical fov correction.

.... more features I am too lazy to name now or that I don't remember right now



And even if some of the above points are not relevant to most users, there is still nothing I could see in R1Q2 that wouldn't be in AprQ2 too.


There is just one thing left where R1Q2 looks better:
active forum and active participation of the R1Q2 author

Well i am running R1Q2 and yes i did mean Q2 Evolved,sorry.  See i want something that has high resolution and others.  I could just get a pak but iv looked pretty hard for that to.  On the forums there are some for skins and maps, but id like armour guns etc.

The reason AprQ2 sucked for me was because it erased my single player files when I tried to use it. Also, who needs some little clock in the corner of the screen? That's not a good reason to get it (get a watch)! Plus, it's a dated client. I haven't seen an update for it since like 2007. R1Q2 has more recent updates. Now I don't know about Linux much since I'm a windows user, but I still like R1Q2 better.

Perhaps it was what could be called "user error"?
I never had any problems with erased files when using AprQ2.

And who needs some little clock?
I do. It is just comfortable and nice not to lose touch with the time it is while playing a while.
By the way, the clock is just an example of many more nice little features that sum up to something R1Q2 cannot offer to me.

Do you also ask me "who needs intact long lines?" Take the broken ones. Hahahha.

And how is it dated? And who needs constant updates? (yes, I know, some kids always need the most up-to-date OS, the most up-to-date software version, the most up-to-date anything) ;-)

First of all, quake2 has evolved during such a long time, there is not much left that needs to evolve.

But anyway, Maniac is quiet for extended periods of time, but then, suddenly, there is a new version. Happened with earlier versions, too.
And none of the features of AprQ2 can be called dated. It has independent physics and everything you could dream of. Name me one R1Q2 feature that you don't find in AprQ2.


It is your choice, and nobody (not me, at least) has any objections.

But you motivated me to reply to your "it is the best client out there right now". Which it is not! (Some things just like everywhere in life just experience more hype and marketing, that's all.)

Yeah but real you edit all the textures, i mean i know high res edits them but you change them completly dont you?

I used APR in a different mod, i loved it. I use r1q2 in tdm and i dont find anything wrong with it...APR had some cooler features(i liked the cartoon skins, the lagometer was useful, and of course the winamp system) but i could careless.
