new guitar

Bought a used american strat that looks like this(and same specs): http://namm.harmony-central.com/Newp/WNAMM96/Fender/lone-star-strat.html

It's 5 years old and in near mint condition, I paid $500. It's sunburst, transparent red into clear-coated wood grain, everything else is that white abalone stuff. Neck looks the same, my headstock is barely different shaped. It sounds pretty good :>

Looks nice. I like the double pickups at the bridge. Its supposed to be a real "Texas" guitar so practice those Stevie Ray licks.

I was playing around with scuttlebuttin' the other day, but quit because the tab didn't sound accurate :<

It's a very good guitar imo. Sounds better than either of my friends' (both 1.5k+) les paul or sg. Not as good as my buddy's ESP eclipse though ;>

I'll post a pic of it and my relatively new vox tube amp once I find my camera...

Stevie Ray is pretty easy emulate once you can figure out his signature moves. The biggest thing I've noticed from his playing is that he always added percussive fret-hand mutes to the other strings around the chops he played which made it sound a little more gritty. There were also specific successions of notes that he commonly used in leads, and he would usually end a particular phrase with certain notes on that scale... not really surprising though, most blues guitarists are forced to do that to keep it from sounding completely out of time and place.

The 3 clean effects I always use on my vox are ac30tb, ac15, and tweed 4x10.

A strat though a vox should sound really good.  AC30?

I think he's got some kind of hybrid model they came out with, not an AC30. Probably features one or two 12ax7 or 12au7 valves in the preamp stage and a solid-state poweramp section. Some of those hybrid (and especially MosFET hybrid) amps can create some interesting classic driven tweed tube sounds.

I'm not familiar with other hybrids really, but I can say that it blows the doors off most of any 50W REAL tube amps that i've ever heard...and i've heard several(my good friend has a 50w valveking peavey tube, absolutely no comparison). I crank it up to concert level frequently (did just an hour ago w/ the best drummer around here, from the best band around here) and there is no static or any kind of interference in addition to it sounding just as good at insane volumes as it does regularly. Everyone check it out the next time you go to guitar center! :>
