Amusing. My iMac 20 inch came with Tiger (I think it was Tiger, 10.4 something, not the new one) and a TRIAL copy of Microsoft Office for Mac and a TRIAL copy of Intuit Quicken for Mac. Hmm.... no trialware eh?

i've seen that with office 2007 you can keep running either the trial or beta (forget which) by keeping your computer clock set back.  Can't believe that trick still works!

I prefer open office myself.

i've seen that with office 2007 you can keep running either the trial or beta (forget which) by keeping your computer clock set back.  Can't believe that trick still works!

I prefer open office myself.
I have uninstalled MS office in order to use Open Office. The only true difference at this point is that MS office uses a horrible format using XML that is literally impossible to parse into any other format. This was used to replace the former formating technique that was equally as impossible to parse and could cause crashing and loss of data. In fact, one of the few differences between office 2002 and office 2003 is that there was a crashing bug in 2002 Publisher that affects some files larger than 10 megs (which is common for publisher) that causes any data inside the file to be unusable. Instead of patching the bug, they called the patch 2003 and expected you to pay another $149 for the fix.

There is a laundry list of my own personal experience that makes me want to throw up everytime I see MS office. From horrible formating tools with counter intuitive undo commands to the change in Word that no longer allows Outlook express users to use Word as an e-mail editor (forcing you to purchase Outlook).

Any functionality of an MS document exists in both OO and Google docs. Any functionality that you miss from viewing an MS Office doc can be reproduced using any of the free office viewer applications provided by microsoft. Any functionality missing from OO is only because MS Office uses saving formats that can cause corruption of data. Although OO had the same corruption of data issue 4 years ago, it has been fixed, where as MS still has not.

Also you can usually get older versions of office for less than $100 so long as you only buy one component. For example you can sometimes find MS Word 2002 for about $80.

I tried OO some time ago, only problem I had that made me switch back was the non-functional spellchecker. I hope they fixed that since I used it, since I want to switch back again soon

The PC or even Windows doesn't necessarily come with 'trial software'... the software is put on by the company who manufactured the PC because they get profit from MS for doing so. If you buy a Windows license and media and install it on a white box PC you build, you're not going to have 'trial' software.

True, but you have to keep in mind the target audience of the commercials in question. The person paying any attention to that commercial couldn't install an USB mouse.

P.S.: Over half of the claims in this video about Mac lying are false, half truths, or circle logic.

The MAC had it going on in the late 80s and early 90s. I remember learning DOS and some code entry using a Green Screen Tandy Model IV with "Duel Floppies FTW" when the color Macintoch hit with it's MacPaint.
Anyone remember what people said about Windows95 ??? Everyone said that Microsoft finally made a Macintosh. And at that time it was very true because MACs had already been there/done that. They were the ones that brought the GUI onto the main stage. Any one remember the Amigas ? They were light years ahead of both macs and PCs. So far ahead of the two that alot said that was their downfall. To powerful to early in the computer age. Odd that we chose the PC over much grander systems. People continued to use their monochrome DOS machines over all the better systems out there. Why? One word: Marketing. At that time IBM was the Powerhouse and anyone that was anybody at the time had to have something on their stuff with the words "IMB Compatable."
But the fortunes of the PC user finally changed with the release of Windows98 SE. No longer was their systems subpar to other more powerful systems. The PCs and Microsoft exploded the likes that has never been seen before and most likely will never be seen again. And they went into every household after that. And now (to the many many thanks from it's users) the PC can outperform, outplay, and outwork as a whole any rival.
No longer does IBM control the buyer, now Microsoft holds those keys and they don't plan on giving them up anytime soon.

No longer does IBM control the buyer, now Microsoft holds those keys and they don't plan on giving them up anytime soon.

Wasn't that one of the things Microsoft used to take advantage of Mac? (Then Bill Gate eventually bought 49% of the company) The "Down with IBM" slogan and that they should both work together.

Anyway IBM is an example of old business that didn't adapt. IBM made business machines. They had no use for the personal computer and it's my assumption that they limited their resources to participate in that market. I think that a better example of this is SoftDisk, the former employer of the great Carmack. When Apogee invented the Apogee model Softdisk refused to adapt and lost. They also didn't recognize the talent they had, John Carmack and John Romero.

Microsoft did not succeed because they are evil. They succeeded because they were better at business.
