Daemon's Gate "software security"

So in a land far far away a very long time ago, DOS games used to prompt for word ## from page ## in paragraph ## of the game manual. So playing Daemon's Gate I was prompted for word 2 from page 92 paragraph 2 of the game manual. I'll be damned if I have the stupid thing so I entered "the". Low and behold I pass the test of valor and off on my amazing 8 bit adventure I go.

I fondly recall a Microprose game called Hyperspeed that came with a 100+ page manual and the same form of copy protection.
That was back when games came on floppies and they actually came in a full sized box with a manual you could read on the shitter.

Daemonsgate? Are you shitting me? I have the box of that not 6 inches from my mouse! I think the manual is in my closet or on my bookshelf somewhere. Haven't even attempted to run it in over a decade. I remember it being very atmospheric, but the scale of the city was simply too realistic. I never got much farther than a battle or two. Holy shit. There really *is* more than just one copy in the world.
