This is not related to the thread about my other computer.

I was making a boot disc on a computer (which was lying with it's side open and my HD hooked up to it) and it said the A: drive wasn't working so I looked in and saw the plug was out. I found it and didn't think to turn off the power before plugging it back in $:-\$ and there was a little <zap> and the comp turned off. Won't start back up.

Did I fry the power supply? That's what I'm hoping at least...

Hi Crazed,

I think I've done that before. Did you try unplugging the floppy again? Still won't turn on?

As I recall, the power connectors on floppy drives are not always keyed. This makes it possible to plug them in upside down, and... When I did it, I fried my floppy drive - but when I unplugged it again, the computer would turn back on.

If after unplugging the floppy, your comp. still won't turn back on, then I guess maybe your power supply may indeed be blown. Surprising though...

I need a boot disc! Can't boot up the computer without it. This NEW dell i'm on right now doesn't even have one, so I had to start up that other computer and ended up frying the power :-/

My roommate has 3 computers... lucky bastard...

Just in case WOS decides to for some reason like loose it's brains which happens a lot an you don't happen to have a bootable CD around or your laptop has a switchable CD and floppy an you left the CD home 'cause you laid it down on the desk when you pulled it out to do something else and forgot to put it back in the carry bag they sure come in handy and even LOS needs one for when you're like messin with drivers and hardware or something and screw the grub lilo or any other BL you use which seems to happen to me a lot and you don't happen to have a LBT or another bootable CD that will work with your bestest and latest incarnation around cause you hadn't obtained or made one yet it sure comes in handy or you need to transfer on itty bitty file from the desktop to the laptop or the other way around cause the boss wants the file and threatens to impound your computer to get the file and you don't have a network connection of any handy you know like usb parallel crossover cable wireless ethernet sneakernet and it would be silly to burn a cd for a 16k file they sure come in handy

iv been itching to make a bootable slipstreamed winxp cd ffor ever
just havent got around to it

its real pain in the ass to use 6 floppys just to get it to boot my cd each time
i dont install xp that much to really want to do it tho
but it certinly would be nice
