I had a go. Killed all the stock bad dudes with a melee weapon I couldn't see. That's a handedness setting on my client I think.
Where's this going? Gonna have new monsters n guns n shit? "Riders of the Apocalypse" - don't think I've ever seen a quake2 horse yet. Lots of cows......

in q2, the riders of the apocalypse have mighty war steer with epic looking armor, that they ride across the skies on wings of shadows.

But yes I finally have the time to explain what I should have to begin with. (the original post was done in a hurry while I rushed off to the Night of the Living Dead fest)

This is a 3d adventure/RPG mod in which the main feature will be a unique spin on inventory management. In doom you start with a small gun to fight small monsters. As you grab larger guns you meet larger monsters, and as you meet larger monsters you grab larger guns. So as you pick up successive weapons, they will not only become stronger, but provide a different strategy for killing monsters. Some monsters will be vulnerable only to fire weapons. Some monster will be immune to all physical damage. Some monsters will only be susceptible to damage while under a specific spell. (at which point their AI changes and they become a different kind of threat)

So version 1 of the game will be a completion of this mechanic with additional classic RPG elements. This will include full audio "cut scenes" with several voice talents I've got in mind.
Version 2 will add more advanced RPG elements, a possible class based skill tree, non linear maps, and NPC characters to replace most of the cutscenes.
Finally, version 3 will include any engine side enhancements, as well as the most complicated game play changes, such as an advanced Diablo style inventory system.

So the idea is to continue releasing demos (alphas) as progress lends itself. If everything goes as planned the draw to play the next version will rely on the significant changes in gameplay. So that learning the entire plot in version 1 does not ruin your experience as the newer enhancements are released.
