Tex Avery wasn't the first, but he was one of the biggest in cartoons. He's responsible for most of all of the famous cartoons. He's the creator of the wolf and droopy.

I'm pretty sure that he didn't invent any of the main WB characters, but he made most of the famous Bugs and Daffy cartoons. I'm pretty sure that he made the "Duck season, wabbit season" bit.

The biggest tell tale signs for his cartoons are the attention to realistic human movements (with low frame counts due to budget), dark and washed out background choices, foregrounds and backgrounds are similar colors and not as pronounced, and terrible sound quality.
