Everyone alright?
Be safe, and don't get blown over like that idiot on the weather channel.

I'm in the northeast corner. The eye of Ike passed about 30 miles to the west of us yesterday evening. Lost electricity around 4:30pm, got it back about 10am this morning. We had 50 mph winds, a few downed trees, 2-3" of rain, debris on the roads this morning. Nothing like down south ...

We got a big fat nothing here in Austin. I feel like a turd complaining, given the devastation elsewhere, but damn it, we really could have used some rain!
My relatives in Illinois were harder hit by Ike than central Texas was!

Downtown Houston got it bad. Galveston real bad.
My hotel at IAH was without electricity from 1am Sat. to 8pm Sunday, 43 hours.
I am one of the lucky ones. Many, many more are still without power that lost it before we did.
Some customers may be without power for as long as 4 more weeks.
The eye passed just to the east of this location. Peak winds exceeded 75MPH.
Apartment about 1 mile away caught fire during the storm. Unknown casualties.
This is a bad one, more extensive than Katrina. Texans deal with it, they don't whine.
FEMA has also bypassed state government in Houston and adjoining counties because the state was getting in the way.
This FEMA is not standing on protocol and posing for photo ops for CNN and FOX.
Houston's mayor is also not posing for cameras and telling everone the flavor of his city at the end of the day.
From what I am seeing the POD's are manned and working for those hit hardest.
One of these days we might actually have disaster plans that work.

Oddly enough, a small town here was hit hard sunday night and lost power, possibly until thursday. Fortunately for my wife, who had been up all night with the baby sunday night, that small town was the town that I work at. So work was cancelled due to hurricane... In Pennsylvania. Odd to say the least, but I think I have a better appreciation for the plight of the people hit by it.

schools were closed south of Buffalo, NY due to the hurricane too. Winds (in Buffalo ~60 max, I'm betting down where I am 80mph easy) took down lots of trees.
people from my church are heading down south to help with the clean up/recovery soon. I was asked but with moving soon & taking two kids back & forth to school every day (at different times!!!) I can't.

Seems you guys weathered that storm very well. Pun intended.
If it was 50 years ago it would be different for sure.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
