I was wondering, I seen a few players in q2dm8 and other maps just climb up or jump up on the freight boxes. How the heck do you do that? I can never jump high enough to get up on those things, I've seen some players climb up boxes I know one guy on tastyspleen servers and saw him do it. I won't name his name but I was like wtf?
So my question is, is it in alias in your config and you set it to a bind? How do they do that?

Rate atleast 8000 i think, mine is set at 15000.
cl_maxfps 120
cl_async 1
Push up against boxes and jump, right at peek of jump hit jump again as if your doing a double jump and up up up you will go.
But you can only do it on cetain boxes, like the one where the nade launcher is in DM8.

the cl_async 1 doesn't work, when i put that its like im saying it in talk instead.

I think it's r1q2 specific. Do you use r1q2 ?
If not you should, it's a far better client.

I think its mainly the higher fps, I think 90 or higher will work. You can also crate jump for the rocket launcher, but its harder to do than the GL.

My experience is 100 fps or greater is required.
And unless your monitor refreshes at 100Hz or more, you'll need to turn off wait-for-vsync.Β (gl_swapinterval 0)

Well nevermind then because im on a sucky computer with a 4mb vid card intel solano and 833mhz compaq with windows 2000. Plus I can't even run r1q2 or r1gl because if I do when I get into the servers it is soooo choppy its unplayable. So I guess I am just screwed. I play just for fun but I thought knowing a few tricks might help me be more mobile and letal haha. With 200 ping I guess thats life.

Your experience with r1q2 so far must be caused by a bad or just ill fitting default config.
Especially because you are on lower equipment and play at a higher ping, r1q2 would be a MAJOR benefit to your playing experience. You just need someone to help you setup a good config. i would suggest posting asking for help here, or at the r1q2 forums. It would be worth the short time invested.

Jumping those crates on Q2DM8 requires at least 90 fps and a decent video card. That shouldn't be too hard these days with hardware so cheap. But here's a question.:
Those crates are 64 units high and a standard size for a large crate on all Id maps. I find I can only jump some of these crates on some maps (using 120 fps) but many more I can't jump. But they are exactly the same height. Very odd Quake thingee in its inconsistency.

According to the old wireplay Q2 jump guide, crates have to be in the negative z axis of the map. I guess you can use a map editor and take a look? I'm not too sure myself.
Also, with 90 fps, I find that I have to do a jump in the air without touching the crate, and then the second jump will climb the crate.
