using quark for editing a skin, need help

Hi, im kind of new to quark but i know all of the basics. im trying to change skins but its just not showing up when i start quake.  Im trying to change the blaster with some different colors, i figure that i only have to edit the tris.md2 file. But when i start up quake its nothing and there is no gun. Am i doing something wrong, do i need a different program for this? Please help.

tried it but u can edit both ur
models and skins there.

But i wont post the whole site with q2stuff bc i
saw ratbot could be downloaded there.

We have already enough of cheaters in our
servers and we dont need anymore.

uhg, do you guys know of any tutorials on how to skin because im just not getting anywhere. I cant freakin save the file right. In quark i try to save it then open it and it doesnt work, same with that other program.
