fps problem
« on: July 30, 2008, 08:10:40 PM »
Ok so usually when i play jump i only get about 60 fps all of the time no matter what, then some guy told me to type gl_swapinterval 0 and i would have normal fps and it worked. So whenever i start playing i type it and my fps is fine, all of a sudden i can only get up to 40 fps now everytime i play, even when i type gl_swapinterval 0. Any suggestions please?

Homeslice.I think it has something to do with XP,as it's default doesn't allow you to go above 60 fps.Something to do with the refresh rate or something.I'm no expert, but I can help you try stuff that may help...

If I were at your pc,I'd fix the problem easier,I'm not,so lets start with the basics....

First make sure u have the latest graphic card drivers. www.nvidia.com for a geforce card. www.http://www.amd.com/us-en/ for radeon or w/e drivers.

Second make sure you have the latest directx 9 for xp or 10 for vista..

I have never used vista,so I'm clueless, but if you're using xp then try...

Right click on desktop.you may see nvidia control panel or ati....If not do the same, right click desktop then goto properties.now click settings tab in that window, then Advanced, the new window at the top should display your graphics card, click that.

Nvidias, new control panel is useless lately,if thats what card u use.If u manage to find Performance and Quality settings, change vertical sync to off, this should make your fps go beyond 60 fps.

Also you could try r1q2,download site http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/r1q2/  If you can't figure out what to download, then use this direct link... http://www.r1ch.net/stuff/r1q2/download/r1q2-websetup.exe  download that, and everything will install for u..

There is nothing wrong with 60 FPS. There is also nothing wrong with Vista.

There is nothing wrong with 60 FPS.

Until you try a crate jump that is only possible at 120 fps

Looks like your fps rate is still locked to your monitor refresh rate (60Hz), homeskillet.
You need to look through that crazy video control panel and switch off vertical synchronisation (v_sync).
The use 'set cl_async 1' in Q2 console.

Well I hope you're using a crt with 120hz refresh rate else you're going to have one ugly tearing problem.

I don't play jump but I can make all the necessary jumps for what I play with 60 FPS and it runs smooth as gravy.

That's why you'll never be a great jumper.  Higher fps is also very important for moving quickly on ice.

I have always used 60 fps for the past 8 years or so, and think I can hold my own in jumping ;>.. but toxic is right about the ice though, you need high fps. I've always hated ice though, not jumping or fun imo.

^^ wrong

If your max refresh rate on your monitor is 60hz then anything over 60hz is going to producing tearing. This happens with each and every game I own using a Dell 3008WFP 5ms 30" monitor 2560x1600 on two GTX 8800 cards. I also experience tearing with a 22" 2ms Samsung on a single GT 7950 card.

Do you understand what tearing is and what the purpose of vsync is? So they developed vsync for no good reason? So they and I are wrong? You're a moron, don't even attempt to question me.

That's why you'll never be a great jumper.  Higher fps is also very important for moving quickly on ice.

Being a "great jumper" is completely insignificant. The jumpmod is a joke.

Fact of the matter is I can make all the crucial jumps I need to. I guess fortunately for me the maps I play on lack 'ice'...

Jager is right, there will be tearing. I run at 125 and it's definitely there, though I don't notice while I'm playing.  :bigshades:

My refresh rate is at 75 hz and I don't get any tearing when I use 120fps or above,so whoever does must have a shitty monitor.  :nana:
