hey guys i been lookin for some sweet female brightskins that are in pcx format, got any plz post a screen shot or or address on where i can get em , iv already done extensive research and found good detailed brightskins lackin in the female department but in the male department i was able to find some with ease

afraid that elysium's skins are one of a kind
not many artistic people in the quake2 community unfortunately

is there a reason why you cant use anything other than .pcx? its such an old and dated format

I've been trying to edit the original player skins to make them look smoother and/or more detailed but the files are so small and bitty it's hard to edit a lot of the design

Making those detailed .png skins is easy with photoshop because they're 24bit images. Just a matter of selecting the chest and leg parts and adding a colored overlay and adjust the opacity, so you don't have to be an artist to turn the stock skins into colored gradient .png skins.
However editing .pcx images with the 256-color palette is a different story and takes a lot of patience and comes down to tedious old fashioned pixel editing. I once made some bright(er than normal) .pcx skins but somehow I can't find most of them anymore except the grunt and athena. I might make a few new ones but then I need to know which colors you prefer.

I don't think you can make them much brighter using the q2 palette, not if you want to see some detail in OpenGL. Anyway the q2 palette works best for skins in green, red, orange, yellow, blue and light grey.

*hint: the light gray standard color in ms paint will come out fairly white when used with the q2 palette.

its weird cuz iv found some really good brightskins from namlys pak or however u spell his name and , but their all males and detailed too! color i dont mind

Ok I loaded up Wally, Q2mdl's skineditor and Photoshop and painstakingly made a few .pcx brightskins, modified athena skins to be exact. Opengl always makes .pcx colors a lot brighter ingame, so this is about as bright I could go without losing all detail in the brightness. Notice the dreadlocks:)

Oh yes, I have seen those skins before and tried to make similar pcx versions. But in this case it's not that I lack in creativity but there's just a lack of pcx colors to work with to get the same results

For instance the red female skin from that first link will be impossible to duplicate because some of the colors are just not in the palette.

Hey goatkilla, I finally got around to making some bright (pcx) male and cyborg skins that you had asked for. Quite a while back I had already made the blue grunt for myself, so I used that one as a base for the other colors. I didn't use that acid green color that most paks use because it takes all detail away... but it's still very visible especially the orange and blue ones.
