Hey, i was wondering if you could please get a Freeze Tag server? I know lots of people personally that use to only play freeze tag and will come back if freeze tag would come back. I believe Freeze Tag would bring alot of gamers back into it and or lots of people that are already playing would enjoy playing freeze tag. (rails only) with hook. C'mon give it a shot for a week or two if no progress close it down. Please?

How blind of me, I had not figured to check there as I thought hell, there's the most eyebrow raising mods up on some of the tastyspleen servers, surely yall wouldnt have the freezetag stuff or there'd be a server up just for the sake of it! if I recall correctly, it doesent really matter how many servers are up right if they arent being used? minimal resource usage or something. Ah well, if you ever were going to put a FT server up, there has been a bit of interest expressed in the past and in IRC tonight. Might be getting ahead of meself but wonder if its possible to do 2 configs, 1 with all weapons and 1 just insta freeze. i'unno!

There was definitely a source available. I knew the dev back in the day. He moved on to doing mods for Call of Duty or something and I haven't heard from him since. (In fact there are quite a few threads of me asking where he is)

Anyway, I have a copy somewhere. I'll do a quick look on google and If I can't find it then I'll dig up my local copy.

The two Linux source archives, freeze189_linux.tar.gz and linuxfreeze189.tar.gz are identical.
The two small .zip files are empty except for a single folder name within. Defective apparently.
The Windows source compiles in VS6 just fine.
The Linux Makefile is obsolete, asking for alignment options that have been renamed.
There are some extern/static declaration conflicts in g_items.c and g_local.h that VC6 apparently ignores but GCC doesn't like but they are trivially fixed. Fixing the sources and the Makefile cflags allows a "successful" build on FC8 but I have not tested the DLL yet.
The freeze.zip contains source, maps, paks but the DLL doesn't declare it's version number so I couldn't immediately identify whether it's 189 or not.
The freeze189.zip contains paks and source and a dll but no maps or sounds.
I did not compare the sources in freeze.zip and freeze189.zip yet.

the stock freeze linux binaries don't work with q2admin so I never bothered to go any further, but that was before I started re-learning coding/compiling. A definite FT match would be fun.

They are probably linked to really old Linux runtime libraries so they would be considered "old apps" under the r1q2 server and you can't mix old DLL's with new DLL's like q2admin. You can recompile the freeze code and get a "new" dll that will be compatible. I can provide more information but it will take a little time as I need to complete some paperwork for work (annual review time).

I compiled the code with minor issues (changing static ints to just ints) & got a linux .so, but it won't run. No log file made either.

FYI, the source isn't in the "source" zip file, that's blank.

There are several undefined symbols in the .so file. The fault is in several non-portable functions used in the stdlog.c code. (itoa, closesocket, net_disp_err) itoa() and closesocket() are Microsoft extensions. and the net_disp_err function was defined for Windows but not for Linux, it looks like the Linux source isn't so Linux.

Use ldd -r gamei386.so to see the success of the build and the libs it's linked with. I add this in the Makefile, in the game$(ARCH)... segment as ldd -r $@

We need to write explicit functions to replace them for Linux, the itoa could be written from FOSS code from the net or replaced with sprintf() which would be just as good, IMHO. Writing #define closesocket close should work for fixing that one, *nix uses close for files and sockets so there is no need for a distinction as there is in WinSock. The net_disp_err needs to be rewritten for Linux instead of with the WSAGetLastError call. The ANSI functions perror and strerror come to mind.

I looked at your build and there are a lot more than just three undefined functions. There was something wrong with the build.
