It was smaller than I've ever seen one before. I came up on the creek through the woods that separates the two pastures behind my house and I heard what I thought at first was a couple of squirrels raising all hell down in the creek bed. Then I saw some low growing shit waving around. I guess he was down there calling out for his mother or something. I didn't see any others anywhere around. If it had been a lone adult one, I probably would've shot it. I probably would've HAD to. Around here, a lot of them end up having rabies and will attack anything. Even if they don't show signs of having rabies (like this little one), they're still all carriers of it.

I'm not surprised I haven't seen any more out here before now, these damn things camouflage perfectly with the color of the bark on all of the oak trees. I was actually trying to scan over both sides of the creek to see any coyote or deer tracks in the bare wet dirt. Didn't see any fresh ones. Haven't heard too many coyotes closer to the house at night anymore either. Doesn't especially break my heart that I had no luck finding any, the goal is more or less to make them leave my gardens alone, not really to bag one. You can't eat the ugly fuckers anyway, god only knows what diseases they have. I don't think I'd ever have one mounted as a trophy unless it was especially large and clean looking. Most of them I've ever come across have always been small, skinny, and gnarly coated.

Yeah I trapped one the other day and put it in the back of my truck and dropped it off at the pier(raccoon). I've dropped off 5 wild cats, 3 possums, and 2 raccoons at my local fishing pier..haha. We have coyotes as well on the island which is funny.. guess they swam here.

HAHA! I've never known coyotes to be aquatic. Of course there's always the possibility that someone PUT them there intentionally. Kinda like how random assholes have released snakeheads in Florida rivers and lakes. I was watching a show on Animal Planet not too long ago called River Monsters (awesome show by the way, I highly recommend it) where he was fishing for giant snakeheads. They actually aren't all that GIANT, they appeared to only get to be the size of bass or walleye, however they eat the living shit out of everything in sight (including every native species), have hideous sharp teeth like piranha, and either kill or starve everything else out of the water. And they can survive in water chocked full of oxygen depleting algae blooms or where the water is pretty stagnant with very little oxygen. Apparently they're hard as hell to catch and breed like crazy. That show is really the only place I've ever heard anyone talk about them, so hopefully it's just hype and they really aren't spreading through North America like they claimed they have the potential to. I'd hate the thoughts of not being able to fish for anything but "trash" fish in Georgia rivers because a couple of east Asian assholes decided they wanted to have some nasty fuckin snakeheads to hook and eat.

As kids we just fed the coons leftover chicken bones. Raises the hair on your neck to watch/hear them chomping thru a drumstick.

I normally wouldn't intenionally inch up close to one like that. Like I said, an awful lot of them have rabies. I sure as HELL don't want to have to get any rabies shots, those hurt like a motherfucker from what I've heard. I was armed with a 12ga shotgun w/ 0 buckshot and a fully auto 9mm machine pistol with a 40rd mag, no problem. I'm a pretty good shot with it too, so anything within 40yds is deader than hell when that safety comes off. I have it fitted up with a suppressor but I'd still like to use something quieter. I've been contemplating getting a compound bow, or even better, a good crossbow with a scope, but I'm not sure I really want to spend the money on one. I have an old recurve bow that was my dads, but the string on it is pretty old. I can draw it back pretty good and it hasn't broken, but I'm afraid that if I was to ever let it fly after drawing it, the pressure would pop it and whip a fissure through my face. Hopefully I can find a string for it next time I get down to Bass Pro Shop, maybe if I can practice with it enough I'll feel comfortable enough to use it this winter when I can hopefully get out and do some whitetail hunting for the first time ever.

WTF! Anyone that's gonna do traditional rod and reel fishing and claim noodling is unfair and will deplete fish populations is off their rocker. For starters, there aren't enough people doing it, I don't care what statistics they claim. Secondly, it's pretty dangerous for the fisherman, so that kinda acts an equalizer in regards to being "unfair". A big enough catfish can, no shit, bite your thumb THE FUCK OFF... or at least chomp down on it hard and dislocate or brake it in the process of thrashing around. Not to mention wading around in water puts you at risk of being snake bitten when you can't wade away from a water moccasin fast enough. And god forbid if you should reach into a tree stump or hole and accidentally find a large snapping turtle. I will concede that I don't like the idea of someone reaching into their hole or stump to pull them out because it can disturb the bed of eggs, but if I'm not mistaken, there are seasons designated for noodling to prevent people from doing just that as well as stomping through OTHER beds of eggs that bass and bluegill might lay in shallow areas near banks.

Oh yeah, people who fish for "game fish" aka "sport fisherman" have always been bitching, although I do plenty of sport fishing myself. I was supported my entire childhood by commercially caught fish... not to mention I am a commercial fisherman / have my license. Around here, we're seeing something that I and others have seen coming for years: The environmentalists are starting to lay the hammer down on the sport fisherman for a change. Maybe all of the sport fisherman shouldn't have sided with the enviros for the past 2 decades when they were bending commercial fisherman over and screwing them up the ass. Shit is ridiculous... I have angry fisherman stop by my office bitching all the time about how striped bass are strictly a "game fish". LOL... mainland yankees just need to stick to their rivers and shit. Commercial fisherman just get shafted, though... The environmentalists are the ones that annoy/lobby congress daily in large numbers, we don't. It's misrepresentation at it's finest. Same with living on a National Park like I do. Enviros out the ass bitching about birds when they have no ground to stand on. Our beaches are closed from a bird called the piping plover, as if these little guys would ever nest in BEACH TIRE TRACKS. I have lived here my whole life, and it just DOES NOT HAPPEN. Perfect timing during this recession.

Did some fishing yesterday after I finished up some work around here. The lakes are all down a good bit. Lake Lanier up around Gainesville is down almost 6 feet. The pond out back is down a lot and the fishing dock is on dry land now. All the areas where the bluegill usually wallow out their beds to lay eggs are dry land. Time to do a Cherokee rain dance or something, this shit's getting brutal.

Also got new neighbors. They don't take care of the pond AT ALL. The shit growing on the banks is asshole high to a brontosaurus. The cattails by the dock have fucking EXPLODED. I guess before long I'm just going to have to haul my ass out there use a slingblade to whack all that shit down and thin out the cattails and risk getting bit to hell by copperheads and water moccasins.

We need some rain bad too, but the ponds are only down a few inches if that. I'll be going for flounder/speckaled trout today.
