I suppose that could be the case.  But if so, then that would apply to any server where anticheat by default is forced on everyone.
I.e. if we force anticheat on the entire server, then we fuel would-be cheaters to find a way to break anticheat.

Personally I would rather fuel any obscure would-be cheaters than deal with real cheaters while I'm playing. 
Maybe I'm seeing it wrong but the only way to tell for sure if someone has been able to break anticheat is when they're actually using a cheat on an anticheat server and have anticheat installed.

I would say make cheaters work harder by having to go through the trouble of finding a working hack on sites loaded with virus & spyware shit, let them register at h4xx0r forums where they can beg some scriptkid to make them new q2 cheats because their other hax are being detected. Now the non-cheaters have to chase suspicous players and record demos hoping to find convincing proof, which isn't always easy especially in 3rd person view or when the subject has experience.

R1ch did his best to make a reliable new Anticheat for us but if players can just choose not to use it (for whatever reason) then it can't stop cheaters from connecting. To be honest I'm not sure what I would do if I had to decide because there always is the risk of driving away those players who don't want to hear about changing to a different q2 client. 3.20 isn't the reason...  anticheat.dll doesn't exist for win98, winME, linux, mac... (or BeOS )

If we forced anticheat on everyone, then we would exclude everyone not running win2k/winXP/vista.

I'm aware that winxp/vista cover the majority of players, but I am not about to exclude people for choosing a different OS.

However, we can and do force AC on a case-by-case basis, if someone's playing looks suspicious.

Oops duh I was only thinking of different Q2 clients, not OSes.

Right... I dunno either so it's probably best not to change anything, but the fact that cheaters are still able to connect today sucks nonetheless and can make people very paranoid:/ Old news of course so nevermind, I'm just thinking out loud.

lol, i was playing against him earlier.  he would make 45-90 degree turns and shoot me as i walked around corners.  my guess would be frkq2 with the aiming radius set really high.  and autofire enabled.

Oh hell yeah. There was giant 20 or 30 page long thread about it where he denied using a bot, then said than "I can't get AC to work.", then when he finally got it running, it logged him using it and he still denied it.
