Things have changed since 9/11. Freedom of speech has been taken away to a degree. I can remember back when the artist Rev. Steven Johnson Leyba was promoting his work during his "Satanic Apache" tour. During his performance, he actually placed a curse upon the United States. Did it work? Maybe. It took place just before 9/11...

First of all putting up a sign that said "Assassination of Clinton/Obama" is completely insane these days.
What the hell did he expect ???

Second, i agree that this also is insane: Muslim says "Death to America" & waves a burning flag it's a protest.
They eat our food, drink our water, live in our country, go to our schools, earn our money AND send it back overseas. But yet "WE SUCK !!!"
Whatever man.
I say the same thing alot of other people say.
Take um all and tell them that if they don't like us and want us to all die we'll be glad to take all your happy asses back to the freeking desert and drop you into a nice big pile of Camel Shit.

edit: although I did use the terms Desert and Camel, this is in noway directed to just muslims. This is directed to ANY "non"american person. They can be of any origin or race. Yes even or especially whites born on US soil. Just because they're born here that does make them a "US Citizen" but in no way does it make them an Amirican. I don't care what country they come from or what color they are, they're either an American or they're not. And if they don't like america or americans that why the hell do they live here.
I say piss on them, they can leave.

doesn't matter if it's insane or not (people called it insane to make a movie about what would happen if bush was assassinated.  Congress, FBI, CIA, etc. already know what would happen, it's just not polite to TALK about it).   it's not illegal.  There's lots of stuff that can be considered insane that's ignored & stuff that should be ignored that's not. 

Love the response to the sign though: someone could break the glass so you need to take down the sign. 

People, govt, law enforcement, etc are such pussies.

I never said one should leave because they aren't happy with the way things are going in America.
I said one should leave if they hate America and Americans. Because that  poses the question: If one hate America and one hate Americans, Then "why" is that person here ??? And why should laws be changed to cater to them ???

I mean think about it. We've basically told these people this:
You hate our Country, you hate our people, you want us to dead. We'll change the laws so you can express your hatred for us by burning our flag.

I say this: NO!!! NO!!! NOooo!!!! You will NOT burn our flag. If you hate us that bad get the F*** OUT !!!!

As a principle, being unhappy with America for acting unamerican is as patriotic as one can get. There's a difference between defending the name of something in it's current form, and defending the ideal of something that may have been lost over time. What, after all, is the role of government? Simply put, governments are there to act on the behalf of those who cannot act for themselves. Who acts on behalf of a victim of car theft? The government. Who acts on the behalf of enslaved cotton workers? The government. It's only purpose is to protect the civil rights of the minorities who would otherwise be overwhelmed by mere majority. Stripped of everything else, this is the only real rational behind any governing body.

It's easy to get lost in terminology, since so many have been used to hearing the popular catch-phrases from the opposition, and then retaliate with the popular catch-phrases of their side. It's almost like having human bumper-stickers. Do some looking of your own, evaluate each argument individually, and try to remember why things like free speech are important.

Now, in this specific case: for years the banner of free speech has been proudly displayed. "We can say what we want about the government, and we will not be punished for it!" For a long time, very few people had any  *reason* to say anything bad about the government. For the most part, the free speech was used to congradulate it (and in many cases, rightfully so). So now when somebody finally does have something negative to say, are we so willing to drop that banner for the sake of the situation? I would pray not.

Another side is that it could be construed as an actual threat towards these persons. If I'm not mistaken, however, the laws of slander and libel do *not* apply to government officials, due to their public lives. There are very good laws against threatening other people, but they apply differently to those who work in the political arena. It comes with the job. Actually, on further reading, it was in 1964 ( New York Times Co. v. Sullivan) that it was determined that public figures could not accuse others of libel unless "actual malice" could be construed. I highly doubt that this case would be an example of that in any objective light.

So is the govt. in the wrong here? Legally, yes. "An unjust law is no law at all". What is going to be done about it? Probably nothing, since everyone is so wound up into thinking that any attack of the law is unpatriotic or anarchic. It's rather amusing how the terms have been so wrongfully applied

Wow that was very insightful Jehar, but exactly what does this have to do with flag burning ???
The law was simple, it was VERY illegal to burn the flag as it is money.
The law was changed to allow america haters their idea of freedom of speech.

I have no desire to burn the flag, although I won't hang what up (unless the country changes).  and I think if people want to burn the flag, it shouldn't be against the law.  if they hate this country should they get out, I think probably, but you shouldn't get in trouble for burning a flag, that's what's good about this country.

Burning such a symbol of a country is an obvious act showing your hatred for it. Flag burners should be deported to Mexico.
