Vista gets some pushback...

The latest quirks I get out of Vista has to do with my internet connection. I'm doing ordinary browsing when I get a stall or a "site not found" message. I close Internet Explorer (7.0) and open my mail to check the connection and it's fubared as well. I finally re-start my pc and all my connections are back. This has only started to happen in the last 2 months or so. And I must have downloaded at least 15 "recommended" security patches from Microsoft. So I have no idea which one is causing the dropped connections. None of this happens in XP. Here's an article on how people are embracing Vista:

screw people who "want to save XP". I had 2k for YEARS, loved it, no issues, period. Had to get XP last year because companies stopped supporting 2k. Why? Because XP is "better". It's crap. People who love XP & want it "saved" deserve the fate they put on it: push MS to kill good OS's just so theirs can be more popular.

Yes. I've used 98se for years and reluctantly switched over to xp when I started to run into network problems on LAN parties where I was the only one who still used 98 (this must have been around 2002/3). And as much as I hate getting used to new and so called improved user interfaces I've never regretted that I switched. Over the last 5 years my PC's have only bluescreened as a result of failing hardware and never due to xp issues. So at this point I have no interest in even looking at Vista and I doubt that is going to change soon. I can't think of one good reason to go though the trouble of getting my trusted old software to run, updated or replaced and whatnot.
But I don't get all worked up over it anymore because that's just a waste of energy. I guess my way of saying the hell with that whole crooked MS policy is that I've never paid a cent for my OS and I never will, especially when they're trying to force their new one onto me. Nowadays the whole western society expects and basicly forces people to own a computer+24/7-broadband connection and a cell phone/pda and god knows what else there is we've been told we can't live without and it's getting to the point where most of the elderly are even starting to feel a little retarded and are getting a little worried. As a matter of fact that whole development of forced luxury and "improvement" also starts to worry me. Where does this end? If it ever comes to a point where there is no choice (for a Windows-user) but to use their latest OS then I probably sell my pc and buy a non-MS gameconsole again or find something else to do with my spare time.
(lol ok, started to digress, obviously it does get me worked up when I start to think about it

VISTA stands for:
"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROKEN YOU MORONS!!!!"
Vista is the Mellenium eddition of Mellenium edition. A complete joke. And in as much as plug and play worked, it was completely scaled back to a worse product than in Win95. I'm not sure how the "Buy my OS, it doesn't run as many programs as the previous version" strategy was meant to work.
But remember the switch to XP was to upgrade Win2000's security and hardware compatibility. It took 2 massive security updates followed by additional countless security updates but it happened and now it works. So forcing a change is always a bad and destestible practice. However upgrading windows usually ammounts to supporting better/more processors, more ram, and larger disc space. If vista were to xp as server 2003 were to server 2000 there would be no problem. The upgrade to XP was waranted although it should have never been forced. However the upgrade to vista has no purpose and I hope microsoft falls flat on their face.

On the positive side of things, the linux desktop and laptop market has had a veritable explosion since the release of Vista. Bad for Microsoft, good for Everybody Else, it seems.

I've rarely used Vista, and from what people are saying, it's likely that I wouldn't be happy. Although under the hood there are many improvements, possibly the overall usability wasn't where it should be. Regarding the improvements, one example would be advanced heap overflow mitigation. Personally I want my OS code to be that advanced, but free operating systems have been for years - especially OpenBSD. There's lots of code that's been changed, i'm sure a lot of it results in certain improvements. I'm almost inclined to switch to Vista because my windows will switch cooler (yes I know linux can do this too).
I'm also not sure about Vista's problems, they tried to implement some sudo like functionality, to keep things secure, and obviously the users didn't want that. They also required high end hardware, and there were some application compatibility issues - to be expected with a major change. You either want it or you don't, but you should expect the problems, imo
to each his own I guess.

Oh yes the wonderful IE7.0!
God I wish I had the 3 days back that I spent trying to figure out why my computer wouldn't boot and then fix it, after I errantly installed that "high priority" windows update.
Although, I should probably thank MS because my computer runs so nicely now that I was forced to repartition the HD and reinstall everything from scratch.

But were they brand spankin new rigs?
Mine is an old p4 1.8ghz on an ASUS mobo.
It was bulletproof in it's day.
There was no fuckin reason it shouldn't have worked, except that MS fucked something up.
I know I'm not the only one that had that problem.

Wouldn't say they all were. Many of them were Pentium 4 but yeah, they weren't that old. 1.4Ghz? yuck.

The laptop I purchased late last year came with Vista pre-installed. Personally I haven't noticed any issues with it what so ever. I also never had ANY software issues with windows XP or blue screens of death (other then faulty memory) over many years of using it. Yet people have constantly complained for years how horribly buggy windows xp is. As long as you take care of the OS no issues really come up. Perhaps some people just don't know how to do that properly

It's possible that I'll someday upgrade to XP, just haven't found a reason to yet.
