to tell the truth, if you wanna improve in rail, railz isnt the best place to do it, unfortunately the fact is in railz, its relatively safe to use the rail gun, seeing as you are ONLY using rail and fighting ONLY against rail, it teaches you how to dodge and fire correctly against railgun, but it doesnt not teach you how to dodge correctly while fighting a weapon of a different class, i recommend you join the dm server and constantly go for the rail gun, as that would be much better practice against a variety of weapons, railz only produces the type of players who use rail in any situation, even those which other weapons would be better suited for, this is because theyve gimped their other weapon abilities so rail is all they can depend on

That sounded more like a half-truth elevated to gospel. 

What I mean is, what you're saying sounds similar to telling a musician, if you want to improve your chops, practicing scales isn't the best way to do it.  You have to play live with other musicians, or you'll never learn the dynamics you'll need in that situation.

This is surely an example of some logical fallacy, though I'm not sure which one.  It's using one truth, i.e. "You have to play live with other musicians, or you'll never learn the dynamics you'll need in that situation." to try to discredit the idea that practicing scales is also a valid and useful way to improve one's chops.

Obviously in my analogy, I'm likening practicing on a railz server to playing scales.

Well, I understand what he's saying, and I do agree that a good railer needs to be able to use it in non-exclusive rail scenarios.  I've actually been trying to do just that in the few times I've gone to Vanilla or Mutant other then Railz lately.  It makes sense, and there are certainly differences in strategies.

For me, however, the biggest problem has been ironing out my aiming/rate/sensitivity issues with the rail, so in that sense, the railz server has been perfect.   Otherwise, it would be a weapon I would normally avoid using.  Now, I'm getting more comfortable with it.

ok look at it this way

people go to practice rail in a railz server cause they want to improve their aim, however they fail to realize that people are only using rail gun against them which deprives them of alot of experience

however, practicing rail in a serevr with all guns STILL allows them to practice rail, its just that they get to practice on a variety of opponents using different types of weapons that require different methods of dodging, PLUS in order for them to hit you they must dodge in certain ways to synchronize with the aim of their weapon

your comparison of the scales is a little off only because scales is something you MUST practice alone, however aim is not something you must only practice on a railz server, you can still work on aim in a normal server + get the added experience of shooting people with different weapons and dodging while aiming with the railgun against different weapons

p.s. ya slick the best maps imo are lava tomb and the pit for the dm server, thats why i recommended the dm server, most of the maps have easy access to the rail gun, while if you jump on vanilla you have to wait for the right map, or mutant, its totally random

also, do you have the winxp mouse fix? this helped me out alot when i didnt even realize it, i hadnt played in so long since i changed from 98 i thought i just had a poor rail, then naymlis informed me of my folly

No, I wish it were that simple.  I've had the XP mouse fix in place for sometime now.  Plus, I'm using the R1Q2 client, which features that fix option.  It's really a physical thing.  Just a bad habit.  Maybe if I attach lead weights to the mouse?

now ive got a crappy lil dell mouse, maybe ill blame my aim on it

(Omega was on TS Railz and gave me the IP of the H2O Railz server in Canada)

Omega...that H2O railz server is fast, man.  Gameplay seems much faster than TS's Railz.  Maybe it's the maps.  I tried to take a screenshot just as the game ended where I tied that guy "King", but wouldn't ya know, the game crashed on me.

Its a server being run by matchmod. matchmod could also be configured to allow a server to use one weapon (or voosh mode) and make the railz fast. The railz on h2o server just has quick railz reloading time, and its hard to dodge those railz, but more easier to frag with (imho).

Yo slikkster, q2 isnt the only game I rail In, but i also rail in q3. Theres this hook n rail server I like (Bnb clan hook 'n' railz:67.15.20.115:27960)
and hooking there is pretty fun, and you could use the railgun to launch your self in the air. Its even better than an rocket jump. I do ok on the q3 server, except im trying to get used to playing q3 (yes my skillz are a little different). heres an sample of my q3 score:  (this was taken today)
