aliases are a problem, they're not a good thing.

you don't know who you're playing.  they could be a medicore player, an expert player, or new.
so you're at a disadvantage playing, because they know about you, but you don't know about them. it also makes creating fair teams difficult.  not to mention, if they win, they unalias, and talk some shit, but if they lose, then they stay aliased.

for the most part, many players have played each other for years, and the community is small, which is nice. usually people are aliased, because they have something to hide, and they're causing trouble. i'm not saying, some people don't cause problems, but in general it's bad, and I (and many others) don't let them play if possible.

if they were a dick to start with, it doesn't matter what they call themselves.


on a side note:

I alias when I don't want to be bothered, which is entirely different from aliasing to call someone names without them knowing who it is.

The people in the insta scene who play on a regular basis aren't fooled by it either.
They know it's me, and I've only told a few people who I was, generally in mm2 when no one was around.


Are you saying a tdm player (who you guys often profess to be better/smarter/whatever) can't recognize another player he knows from their movements and habits?

Because quite a few instagib players can, and they get called noobs by the same people who whine about aliasing in tdm.

Wait...I thought 1v1 and TDM was all about bragging rights.... are you saying that you need to use the knowledge of who you are playing against as a crutch to win? And it's unfair that you don't know who you are playing against? WOW.

The actions of voting Aliased players off of the server/team/voice is a petty way to show that you are intimidated. Go to the NoAlias server to play and then nobody can call you a whiner/troublemaker. (not directed at you Reaper)

Knowing who you're playing isn't a crutch to win, it's to make even teams for tdm.  When people alias you don't know how good or bad they are, it's common sense - not sure why you're so confused.

rarely have i seen the elitest express concern as to whether or not a team was properly balanced skill-wise. so this 'unalias for the good of all' excuse i for one am not buying. if the rest of you believe it, more power to ya. why don't you own up to admitting, you're afraid of  teaming with someone you personally don't like?

I prefer to play with even teams, if i dont see a handful of decent players on a server i wont even bother to join it.

Exactly, but why play a game with unfair teams when simply just using your real name would prevent that?  There's a lot of trash talk in tdm because it's a competitive mod, but when it comes down to it tdm players will team with each other for a good game.  It's a love/hate relationship, you may not get along with someone in tdm, but most of that community realizes they are their only competition, and worth keeping around.  Granny is an idiot, but he was fun to play with.

We've been teaming with each other for a very long time. When we're making pick-ups and there's familiar nicks that we've known for 7+ years and 1 alias that has just joined up, he's getting the boot. If I've already seen him play and he's actually good, occasionally i will vote for him to stay. However, no matter what , the right to vote kick aliases goes to the voters / people playing on the server. Besides that, there's always people that aliases cut infront of to play that 1) have been waiting longer, 2) are respectable players that have been around for many years, and 3) ACTUALLY use their name. Aliases don't care to wait, they don't care about other ppl's fun, and they don't care about consequences because for them they're are more limited. There are very few aliases that play 'just to conceal their identity' and be a normal player. Most do it so they don't have to talk shit and lose on their real name. Oh and sigma, why would ANY1 play an alias for bragging rights? lol

I always assumed that there was a server code that determined how long a person has been on the server and how long they had waited between rounds to give it a heirarchy of 'who's next?'. Kind of like in RA2 where you wait in the lobby area before heading into the match.

This thread is about one person and a complaint against that person. Krez can go stick to NoAlias if he's really that opposed to it, along with everyone else who is cemented on the idea that an Alias will never be given the benefit of the doubt.

I just think it's wrong to kick an Alias for just being an alias. That's what keeps me away from those servers.

To tell you the truth....I've pretty much given up on Quake because of the elitest pricks who are controlling the servers in this very manner. That's what has kept me from getting into TDM and 1v1. Too many whiney self-important bitches there that ruin it for the great players.

If krez jumps onto one of his buttbuddy's teams, not caring that other people have been waiting, nobody is going to throw the same kind of shit fit that he would, and try to get him kicked, because he has his little cadre of asswipes to back him up on the votes and it would be a waste of time.



Sigma provided a great solution to this stupidity:

play at tdm-noalias if you aren't good enough to enjoy a game with anyone who shows up under whatever name.

If you think your bullshit opinions about aliases should get to dictate how everyone else gets to enjoy themself in a team game, then you're just an egocentric dick who has to win to have fun, and who needs to stack their team to insure their victory.
