for you modders- need some help

Im currently interested in running a ffa rails mod with a faster railgun reload time, as seen in mods such as sconfig and matchmod. but programming goes beyond my expertise. i was wondering if there were any programmers out there who can help me mess around with the railz source as provided by quadz ?? let me know. appreciate it.

I really need to get around to checking the code into CVS...

But anyway... here's a .zip of it:

(There is no makefile included... I use the r1q2 makefile to build it...)

ive used the various makefiles in the latest r1q2 build, but none of them seem to be working. hmmm

has wheet been around? i know in the past he was working on this.

The makefile is in the build/game directory, which isn't included in the source archive above.

I haven't done any Q2 modding in a long while but try this:

Open up p_weapon.c

Go down to:
void Weapon_Railgun (edict_t *ent)
{
   static int   pause_frames[]   = {56, 0};
   static int   fire_frames[]   = {4, 0};

   Weapon_Generic (ent, 3, 18, 56, 61, pause_frames, fire_frames, weapon_railgun_fire);
}

Decrease the amount of pause frames, this should decrease the idle time.

I don't remember my shell password on tastyspleen, I need it reset!!   :afro:

err... guess I forgot to include some header files needed outside the game directory...

What I need to do is check everything into CVS...

OK, the source is in CVS now.  (Merged back into the r1q2-cvs codebase it originally branched from.)

To obtain the code:

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@tastyspleen.net:/var/cvs/r1q2-ssp login

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@tastyspleen.net:/var/cvs/r1q2-ssp checkout r1q2-ssp

To build it:

  cd r1q2-ssp/binaries
  make game

(Note: The makefiles are currently hardcoded to -m32 and ARCH i386.)

Hmm.. guess it doesn't make the directory on its own.. Try this:

cd r1q2-ssp/binaries
mkdir game/.depends
make game

...BTW... it is widely considered a "very bad idea" to compile code as root. :)


also, what about the modified rails source?? how does that fit in to all of this??

That's what that is.  There's nothing specific to rails about it.  It's just the vanilla/mutant/pygmy (etc.) code, awesomely modified by Wheet to add OSP-like cvars to control weapon spawns, weapon damage, etc.

however, ive followed wheet's suggestion to decrease the amount of pause frames (from 56--->40--->20---->10---->0) but it doesnt seem to be working... any other alternative solutions?

had to change the weapon_generic values rather than the pause_frames
