REFEREE/ADMIN POLICY FAQ

Greetings,

Recent events have prompted me to start this FAQ...

1. Q. Does everything in this FAQ apply to adminning during official league or tournament matches?  A. Not necessarily. This FAQ is aimed at referee/admin policy during regular pickup matches on the tourney servers.  During official matches, referees have more leeway to take a shoot first, ask questions later approach toward keeping matches disruption-free.

2. Q. Is it OK to use referee or admin powers for revenge-kicks or revenge-bans?  A. No. Here's a sample scenario. Someone who happens to be a referee or admin is playing in a normal TDM or 1v1 pickup game. (This admin may or may not be playing under an alias at the time, it doesn't matter.) Then for whatever reason an in-game vote is called, and the person who happens to be a referee or admin is booted from the game. In this scenario, referee or admin was not there on official business, just playing as a normal player and got kicked or booted by a normal in-game vote. The referee or admin is not allowed to get revenge by using referee or admin commands to take action against those responsible.  (If the referee or admin wants to try to get revenge by using in-game voting commands like everyone else, that is his or her prerogative.)

3. Q. But what if one or more players are calling vote after vote, to the point where they are essentially monopolizing the server or causing a major disruption of gameplay? Is it OK for an admin or referee to do a revenge-kick then?  A. No. Avoid any revenge-based use of admin or referee comands.  However, if players appear to be deliberately causing major disruption by over-using the voting system, feel free to condump their behavior and post it. If the logs show they were causing an unreasonable disruption to gameplay or team selection, then I may approve a temporary ban for them wasting everyone's time.
