Ok, after several nights of back and forth with Laurelin about UDML I've come up with a basic layout for how this is going to go. I'm not quite sure on all the details yet but I've seen enough interest in it to make it happen. so here goes....

Timelimit: 20
Fraglimit: none

Winner: best 2 out of 3

Tourney Format

Each team will play each other in a round robin for points, 1 match to be played every seven days, forced maps all around, each map win being 1 point, the four teams with the best scores go onto a randomly seeded single elimination playoff bracket to determine the winner. In the event of a tie in map points, the two teams will play a 1 map tie breaker.

now that's what I have figured out, but here lies the problems...

1) a lot of the people I think that would want to play are clanless, and I don't think too many of the clans participating in this are going to be willing to recruit players just for the sole purpose of playing in this tourney. most clans take all of this too seriously anyways, have all these rules about how you should act, what you should do, etc so a lot of the clanless players with desire to compete aren't going to be welcomed into this. someone suggested to me that they form their own pickup clan for this, but thats nonsense because if theres not a teamplay dynamic to thier team I doubt anyones gonna have very much fun, so I would appreciate in any clans willingness to pick up players that have a desire to be included in this

2) if we were to make this a public tourney (including teams outside of tastyspleen) we are going to run into problems with the skill levels, I've heard several suggestions on how to fix this but none of them seemed really very good, personally I'd rather just populate my clan with tastyspleeners to make things more fair and keep this thing here but Laurelin wants to make this thing totally public, so if that happens I'm going to institute a skill rating system. Each player would be rated (BY ME) on a points scale, and then each team would only be able to play with so many skill points. I know this is somewhat of a radical idea but if some of the gx clans sign up all the matches are going to have landslide scores like 200-10, and it's just not worth my time to ref rape matches.

Anyways, if anybodys got any suggestions, leave em in this thread, :P

Of all these people, they are welcome to Team Tastyspleen. The only thing I ask is to idle on irc.enterthegame.com #tastyspleen. 4v4s is a lot of organization, and I will not run here and there to contact people... Like I said in the UDML Team Tastyspleen post: http://tastyspleen.net/quake/forums/index.php?topic=776.0 - The more people we will recruit, the more squads we will create - and these people will always play together (no squad switching) so they will get this dynamic teamplay you're talking about. Most likely every squad will have 6 players.

Supposing we have 5-6 GX teams, the 'Division' system would definitely be the best solution, just like pro-sport divisions, at the end of the season, the best team of the lower-pool will play (or automatic promotion) the loser of the Upper-pool, and the winner gets in Upper-Pool next season - so this would be (and I dont think it'd be a big one anyway) the only blowout.But like you said, I wonder how many GX teams will actually be interested in this. (Dev!ne, b-d...? VGA, dM|) Some of these clans dont get along and wont play with others, it gets real messy. Given that you wanted that all matches be played on TS - servers, we might lose some GX clans on that too.

the gx teams that currently have enough to participate are: Devine, VGA, b|d and possibly niedobitki, dM is a ra2 clan now, and like I said I doubt vga's gonna get four people together to play b|d again.

I think the bottom line is each pool would have to have 6 teams, to make each round robin a 5 week event, and you are lucky to get 3 of them to actually participate.

EDIT: Also if anyone has any suggestions on what maps they want to see played, reply in this thread, I'm going to have a poll up in a few days to add one or maybe two maps to the current udml map pool (q2dm1, q2dm2, q2dm3, q2dm5, q2dm6, q2dm7, q2dm8, q2rdm12, colour, rene24) so post a reply to this thread if you have a map you wanna see in this tourney

If the there are pools (gx separated from tasty).

Id like our pool to have the map: grunt.bsp

Its a chef d'oeuvre - and is perfectly sized for Teamplay 4v4. Im totally excited at the thought of planning strats on that map.

The map is on all tourney servers already, udml also. As it had been nominated for the 2v2 tourney.

Oh and I want rene24 and q2rdm12(?) out of the list! We never asked for them!

Ok some UDML updates....

I started the website, I will have it up as soon as I'm satisfied with the layout and finish with the rules list, last time the wording was a little off and some of the teams tried to twist it around and use it to their advantage, not that I think anything like that is going to happen here, but I just wanna make sure the rules are crystal clear to avoid any confusion, so give me 3 to 5 days depending on how I'm feeling and how creative I can get and the site will be up. Also I've got to get with console about getting the subdomain redirection, and possibly getting sql access so the refs can use my cool results reporting panel I coded earlier this year, and that brings up another point, were going to need two new refs for this thing because dael has hardly any free time, we're only going to have 3 matches a week but still I think we need two more people, so anyone with a good attitude that can give up an hour a week reply to this thread. I wouldnt mind seeing kobraklaws and mya take these two spots, both of them have been helping out as much as they can with the other tourneys.

So in the next 5 days, each team leader needs to start getting their complete rosters together and submitting them to me either on irc or through a pm on this site, plz include everyone in your clan you think might play, I don't mind modifying the rosters later if you pickup someone, just try and make them as complete as possible for now. The only other thing I can say is every team needs to get in some practice with each other in the next two or three weeks until this thing begins.

Ok I've stolen Laurelin's table from the first tourney and converted it to show you what the udml schedule for the round robin is going to look like, this is assuming Ds signs up and we have 6 rounds, if not the last one will be removed, and if you havent figured out the last two rows are the maps for the finals ;D

ok fockers were do iI sign up and when do you need the roster by , Also what happens if any changes are made before the tourney start? or then again if changes need to be made after the tourney starts . How many are allowed to be on the roster to ensure a full squad is available before game play?
