I'd like to because of all the enhancements and the anti-cheat module. But I've tried to start it a few times and it just stops at the console line and doesn't load the game. So I just continue to use stock 3.21
I took a screenshot of the load and enhanced it as much as possible so you can read the text. I don't think my PC or video card is anything unusual so I dunno.....

What you've shown there looks pretty much like what I see when I run r1q2 as well, so it looks normal to me.

What happens if you try typing, say, connect tastyspleen.net:27912 in the console at that point?

Not when I connect to a server....it doesn't get that far since it won't even load Quake 2. It just stops where you see it on the screenshot. I'll try quadz suggestion and do a manual "connect" and see what happens. Oh I'm using IE6 on my desktop. Shouldn't matter tho.

The screenshot is Quake 2. So what ever it is you use to find and connect to servers is loading Quake 2. What is the game browser you use to find and connect to Quake 2 servers?

check the version stamp on the right.. looks like r1q2 to me.
I cant read that console for shit tho..

I had the same problem when I first installed R1Q2, Rec.
It is waiting for you to connect to a serve is all.
Hit escape at that point and pull up your stored servers and select one.

Ok - it works. Kinda thought it would take me right to the menu like regular Quake 2, but did the esc thing and saw the menu, so it works.

well it's a bit of a change, if you're used to seeing the intro movie play every time you run your q2, and you start using r1q2 and it just dumps you into the console..

glad that it was something relatively simple.

Wonder if I can add a statement to my autoexec or config to "esc" at the very end of the load.... Even better, a few more statements to go "multiplayer", "join" and then "server refresh". Thats what I do all the time anyway...

What does it really matter? Just hit ESC? Why does the menu have to be there lol

There is a togglemenu command, maybe you can add this somewhere to make the menu come up. I personally just pres esc once it loads.

I tried adding that to autoexec and to the shortcut command but it didn't work.

r1q2.exe +menu_joinserver should be all you need

hmm? i was not aware that there were commands to bring up specific parts of the menu system
was this part of the vanilla exe?
