TastySpleen 1st edition Tournament summary
« on: July 23, 2005, 06:41:05 PM »
My congradulations to everyone who participated in this tourney. Never would I thought Tastyspleen could complete a successful 1v1 tourney. That's a bet I'd  have been pleased to lose.

It was very well managed under the circumstances. Complications were a minumum, and the ones that did show up were handled appropriately. Kudos for everyones cooperation.

It was amazing enough that 64 players signed up to play, plus had reserves on a waiting list. Equally amazing were the people who stepped forward to make it happen and see it through. This includes the ones who pushed for it to begin with, the people who administered it, the host, and of course the players who competed. You all know who you are. (big round of applause).

Last but certainly not least, congradulations to Naymlis as TastySpleens 1st edition 1v1 Tournament winner.

I wish everyone the same, or better success in future tournament play.

Yeah, great work. At start there were some players not showing much intrest in the tourney, but the later rounds ran almost flawlessly. And when the best player won, there is noone who can come saying it isn't a success. Considering the amount of players, and that the players were scattered all over the net, I'd say:

Good work all admins! Especially Laurelin for being the main guy, and also to the game refs for being there when the games were played (mostly ;)).

Yes!

1) Thanks for the admin/server owner!

2) Huge thanks to Laurelin to all the details, professionalism, and refing.

3) Thanks to the refs and the cool players.  Everyone I dealt with kep t it fun, polite, and compeitive.

And it was super great to be on many accounts the "biggest upset" / underdog of tourney 1.  Far from a pro player, but a better than expected showing.

Congrats to Naymlis & Daelmun of course... but most of all, to the TastySpleen powers that be... Laurelin, Console and everyone in charge, webspace management, moderating the zillion forums threads, managing all details of the ongoing tourneys, the refs and everyone's been a good sport.  I'd like to know how many people entail the TastySpleen "staff" doing all of the chores required to running this like a well oiled machine.
I learned a lot and continue to learn.

Laurelin, I wish I could even come close to your skillz as a Q2 ambassador of sorts... contacting all of the different communities... I can't stress this enuff for this game's survival.

i can see some flaws that this tournament had, but i count far more good things about this tournament, great job for a first time, there are prolly tournaments with more experienced tourney hosts with more problems than this one, and it was quite a huge tournament, congratulations all, good work laurelin and console, and all the other refs

Hiya Banes  ;D

I introduced the 'Scheduling Deadline' - however, since there is no waiting list so far. It doesn't do much but put to put some pressure on the players.

I'd like to know how many people entail the TastySpleen "staff" doing all of the chores required to running this like a well oiled machine.

Hi FooPooh,

Thanks for the kind words.

Many of the admins prefer to be anonymous, so I won't name many names.  We have a number of server admins, most going back to when we used to do this at xquake.  But there are maybe roughly 5 or 6 server admins who are still active on a daily basis, some old, some new.  (There are 20 admin accounts at present - some connect rarely just to say hi. We miss you !!)

I didn't know Laurelin before he suggested we host a tournament.  As you all know, Laurelin has done a phenomenal job organizing and running the tournaments - he's done most all of the legwork. (Shoutout to the refs, of course!)  And fanny created Lostourminds OSP--"tourney1"--as the first tdm server to exist on tastyspleen.  Lostourminds OSP is fanny's server and he administers it, although he has given all the tastyspleen admins accounts there, so "console" may be any one of us, just like on the rest of the servers.  I created tourney2 by copying fanny's tourney1 config, and adding it to my account that runs mutant, railz, vanilla, sheridan, ctf, dm, etc.

Mostly for the tourneys I've been acting as sysadmin (I own tastyspleen), and trying to provide whatever resources are needed by Laurelin and sean.  I meant to mention sean in the previous paragraph.  sean graciously offered to undertake the creation (not to mention design and ongoing updating) of the tastyspleen tourney website ( http://tastyspleen.net/~q2tourney/ ).  sean's done an awesome job with this, and his time and effort is greatly appreciated.

deftone oversaw the creation of the #tastyspleen IRC channel on irc.enterthegame.com.  (Thanks to [BTF]Element for advising me to get my ass over there. ;))  I try to hang out there as much as time allows, under the nickname 'quadz'.  (Not a name I play quake under anymore as I prefer anonymity on the servers.  But I do play q2 every day, usually on vanilla or mutant or dm or railz... or sheridan.  etc.  :D  Q2 roxxx !!!!)

And of course a final shoutout to all the aforementioned anonymous server admins, past and present.  Thanks!!!  (If any of you would prefer to be mentioned by name in this post, let me know, and I'll edit the post.) (Also if I forgot to mention anyone - my apologies! Lemme know, and I'll fix it!)

[Edit: I just realized I forgot to mention sean's udml 4x4 league!  Which is just getting started, and has its own password-protected server here for scrimmages.  First scrimmage occurred tonight! (27-jul-05)]

Regards,

thx for the kind words console :)

I try to do what I can, where I can, the websites have always been the easy part (mostly because php is so much more user friendly than say cgi) and as far as the events go, I got into q2 for the teamplay, so I love to see it in action (especially 4v4) and if I have to spend a little time out of my day to see it happen I don't mind, as long as everyones having fun. I think however this falls udml is going to be better than the one before because its here at tastyspleen and I have others involved in the day to day aspects of it, not to mention all the good attitudes and motivation to get things organized.
