I would like to make a serious suggestion.

Can we reduce the player limit on dm to a more reasonable number?

The tandem argument would be to reduce the player limit on vanilla as well --- but i understand that is part of what the vanilla server is but it should not be what the dm server is. imo

But dm has turned into vanilla when there are so many players in (i.e. grenade spammers and campers--- I do understand that makes up 95% of the quake 2 community ---and i am not asking that they leave just that we can reduce their number to a workable sum)

If the player number were reduced we could truly get two good games going on dm,dm2 or vanilla, vanilla2 i believe --- server/game choices, who to play against, more mymapping etc.

I have seen a very rusty Elysium lose to Insane Mercenary, Joh(n) lose to Vauchy, and Defiant lose to Odin, etc etc all because the player limit is too high

Why should anyone care? If you even have to ask that question or have some juvenile reply you obviously are not in the 5% of respectable players and deserve each other --- the answer is that fewer and fewer players play this game and we do not need to make them quit by settings and gameplay such as this

ps I would have made it a poll but most of the relevant players do not participate in the forum --But I hope some of the dm crowd that everyone respects will help me voice this opinion.

OFF TOPIC --- I would like to suggest a mymap feature of being able to change all of the weapons to the same weapon --- c'mon city1 with only grenade launchers, wtf!2 with only bfgs, ware1 with handgrenades--some of that stupid vanilla fun

Maybe set a lower limit and have two seperate DM servers running? So people can still join and will keep people playing, while limiting the spam factor.

we have 2 vanilla and 2 dm servers
i fully agree with the OP on this

once the limit has been reached they should be redirected to the second servers
there going to fucking waste cus all want to spam shit with 30 players

I disagree. Lots of players makes lots of fun. If anything, we should increase the player limit, sometimes I can't get on the server because it's full, so increase the limit! Anyway, this is just my 2 pennies.

As I recall, he played with you once as "My Computer" or was it "Recycle Bin", but it was funny. I'm not kidding, he plays.

The dm2 server has an 8 player limit. Historically speaking, 16 is a very common value for maxclients on a deathmatch server. So it's not as though it's set unusually high. (Indeed, with WallFly present, it's effectively a max of 15.)

However... if a majority of the regular players there want maxclients lowered, we can certainly do that.

On the other hand... they could goto dm2 ?

Yeah if anything, lower the number spectators allowed. Unfortunate when I try to get on and see only a handful in ASE actually playing but server is full.

I completely agree with Hieronymous.
I have seen many instances where the best player(s) on will get so annoyed with the camping that they will camp to win just to prove that point. This is all caused by the player limit being too high.
12 would be ok... 10 would be better. And like console said, that is what dm2 is for.

I'm not sure I qualify as a regular but I disagree about lowering the player limit. Players will still be able to spam grenades or spawn kill with a lower limit.

Also I'm not sure it's really that great of an idea to adjust game play to make it easier for a few favored players to win. So Ely lost? Big deal, he's rusty like you say. I'm sure it isn't burning him up side. Usually he owns, he'll get his rhythm back after a while.

If someone is camping a spawn pad then go kill him. I've never seen anyone spamming grenades or other weapons actually win a map either. They're usually just fodder for the score board.

I really disagree that the limit needs to be lowered to deal with issues like this.

The DM server was VERY busy this morning. Lots of fun.

A second DM server ( twin ) is a good idea.

spamming is not a "skill" i want to learn just to able to win a game
the few who agree with me play on mutant, however some players have "leaked" onto there
from vanilla and started ruining the game there with there "skills"

im thinking because vanilla and dm is too full

this is just unacceptable, it really needs to be dealt with soon
