Last spring I was bored with the lack of competition in the gx (team deathmatch) community, and I started a league that I called "united deathmatch league" or udml that hosted a 4v4 ladder. It was up for just shy of ten weeks, had 7 clans signed up at one point, but inevitably it just slowed to a halt. I had to make a judgement call at a match after one of the teams stuffed a quit command to the other during a match that ruffled quite a few feathers. After that it just seemed like everyone quit going the extra mile to schedule/play their matches, wasn't anyones fault really, it's just some peoples grudges sucked the fun right out it.

Anyways, Laurelin said something about twl and I told him that I've decided against competing in it, that instead I'm going to try and get things at devine up and going again and possibly do a fall season of udml, but with a tourney instead of a ladder this time. He said it sounded interesting to him, then told console who was also somewhat interested, so I figured I would make a forum post and see what the rest of you thought about me bringing udml to tastyspleen next month.

The way this is going to work is we would need anywhere from 5 to 8 4v4 teams (you can count |D| as one already so make that 4-7 teams) each team would play each other once, best 2 out of 3 maps, 20 min timelimit, each map win would count as 1 point, the 4 teams with the highest points would go on to a bracket for either single or double elimination (there would be a poll to decide that) to determine the tourney winner. This would all of course start around the time of the semi-finals of the 2v2 tourney so that everyone would have enough time to practice. A fascinating idea... "team deathmatch".... so does this mean weapstay "on"????

If weapstay "OFF" ... then this spells disaster for inexperienced team players (such as me), cause we'll die then spawn w/blasters and find the key weaps camped, err, no, "controlled" by seasoned team opponents. Score: 0 - 120

Of course this implies a 'Weap stay OFF'. And this is where resides all the beauty of 'TEAMing' - dropping guns to your just-spawned teammate. Giving out locations.

But don't be desperate Foopooh - we hope to get many Tastyspleen Regular Clans so it will be a first-time for a few clans.

foopooh, the standard settings for 4v4 team dm are: weaponstay off/powerups on/teamdamage on/self damage on/20 min time

however I do see you point about it being harder on inexperienced players, that's the reason I have hesitation about just jumping into something like this, I want to do some big team games but not if it's not going to be fun for everyone.

Laurelin, Sean... well yes I am in this for the fun and also to help support the way these tourneys bring many of the dwindling Q2 communitites together. If 3 other clanmates show interest in this, then we will surely be in. I assume the maps would have to be large... like dm8 size. I can't imagine doin 4v4 in Edge.

In attmepts of "practicing" for the 2v2.... Geikram & I played a 2v2 scrim vs. Punisher and I think it was Estonian (you guys prolly know these 2 better then we do) ... we got thrashed and smashed not only out of this universe, but out of this dimension

... we didn't even have a chance to use loc & drop binds cause we couldn't even get to weaps and armour fast enuff to put up a fight... they were way too fast for us. Yet, we'll still go at it and keep trying... this is very different from ffa which we all eventually get bored with and just load up another game totally... so this is all good for keeping Q2 interesting

the skill differences are going to be pretty big from one team to another in some cases, however I've got a few ideas on how to level the playing field, as for the maps, the list will be up for discussion if people continue to show interest in this

Question....Clan{KEA} is a rather large clan....I may have more than just 4 people interested in this....which means there is a chance that we may need to form more than one 4v4 team.....what are the rules on this?
