Audio Timers?

I was wondering if anyone could post their audio timers and a brief few sentances on how to use em, ive never used audio timers and people say they do make a big difference as far as duels and such go--I dunno how much better it will make me due to the fact im already quite a poor duelist--but id love to try if anyone could post  :yessign:

Most better NA players do not use them armor. It's more of a euro thing :> With them you can focus more on positioning for shots and fighting your opponent opposed to timing items w/ the gameclock / listening for item spawns. Timers, imo, are gay and I'd rather see you not DL them :<

I have one buried in one of my paks. I think it's for the megahealth. I say "I think" because it never comes on. It tells you every 10 seconds or so that the mega will re-emerge in xxx seconds. It could be perceived as an advantage or an annoyance. It's actually one of Purri's paks. If you want to try it, I can post it.

theres no such thing as a mega timer.. you can use an armor timer when your mega wears out to time it tho.. but just play without em, don't cheat :)

and bind a key to 'play t20'

after talking this over with multiple players ive decided to not use them, Haunt is gonna help me out a bit as far as strat goes and we will go from there--thanks for the replies though  :yessign:  most on this forum are always very helping

Most team play games timers are a must for serious players.. however that just makes you a complete loser with no life.

I got a better idea. Instead of finding the minutest possible advantage to Qauke2 CTF after you;ve already replaced all the skins with full bright blue and red versions. Instead of that, learn how to use quake2 modeller and help me out :-P.


Lol but seriously I'd rather do something constructive then waste that much effort into an attempted at an unfair advantage. It's as silly to me as buying specialized pair of deathmatch jogging pants.

if this is considred a "legit tactic" by "serious players" how come making aliases to handel repetice tasks (rocket jumping for example) & having buddies spectate to tell you where the other team is aren't considered "legit"?

seriously, what's the difference if I mod the game to give me an advantage over someone else or I mess with the control scripting/use a 3rd party person to check things out for me?

the argument has been going on for quite some time in the q2 world.. i used to think timers were legit (if both/all players were using them) but I changed my mind and now consider them cheats with many other players

Don't get me wrong. I'm not arguing that competitive players should not try to take advantages and win. I'm just saying that competitive players are silly and remind me of the "Free Kevin Mitnick" march in which only about 30 nerds showed up to march 5 miles, and none of them made it to the finish line.

In competitive dueling, whether someone has timers/no timers matters significantly.

However, the examples you named would not, peewee_rota.

The three key elements in a duel are

item collection
sound knowledge
positioning/aim/combat

I consider all 3 of these equal, also. Problem is, timers takes most of the skill away from item collection, and you can more so focus on the bottom 2. Plus, if q2 wasn't as so old the makers would have blocked timers :>
