Blue Screens
«

Have any of you ever encountered a blue screen upon starting up Windows XP? I'm having a problem when I turn on my computer. It loads Windows XP fine and then when it finishes loading a blue screen appears (not a BSOD) and explorer.exe will not run even after going into task manager and forcing it to run. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't mean internet explorer!!!!
It's just a blue screen w/ no taskbar or icons.

Possibly corrupt video/sound drivers......?
Have you tried safe mode?

Or maybe something like the blue
welcome screen
but w/o the login buttons?
Try booting into safemode by (repeatedly) pressing the F8 key on your keyboard when Windows starts loading. If the pc gets that far you could deinstall video/sound drivers for a start.

if you click start new task, and type explorer.exe, and it's still not working, gotta go to safemode, and work on the differences between normal operations. safe mode isn't to nice, there's not many run levels like linux, so there's a lot of places there could be a problem, if it works in safe mode.

Tahnk you everyone for your responses. I'll try the Safe mode option. I was trying to force Explorer to run but I would get an error
Run Time error 5, invalid processes. The actual process name that would pop up under the processes tab was called bsa59doejrjjaf (or something of that sort)....

This definitely sounds like a virus, "Runtime error 5" is a Visual Basic error, explorer is NOT made in Visual Basic... you probably have something intercepting every program you run and crashing. The random filename is a pretty big warning sign too. You can try repairing it in safe mode or from a recovery CD if you can figure out what it is, but it sounds like your best option may be to format and reinstall Windows.

If get a blue screen but you can still get task manager up, sounds like a driver issue. Is your desktop color (not picture) set to the same color blue, if so then it is booting but possibly getting stuck loading drivers. I would go to safe mode and start uninstalling drivers one by one, start with your video drivers.
Failing this, as said above it could be a virus, or maybe poorly written spyware that is crashing on startup. Many a time, "hijack this" has saved my butt in this situation.
Hope this helps.

repair windows? I've never seen that actually work non the less save your 'options' or files. if you mess around with the windows installation chances are you will lose your data. backup the stuff you want before you mess with it.
