I understand Linux is a bit bitchy to install (Since I've yet to format a HD and setup the partitions correctly for it to install), but theres Fedora Core and Ubuntu (easiest to install and maintain imo) all free.

You obviously play Windows games so...grab Cedega. A sort of Win32 emulator. Play CS, WoW, AO, Q2 (if you're lazy, you can always compile it for native *nix

I disagree with most you said.

I don't find Vista or XP to be bad at all. I am able to run pretty much anything and all of my hardware is compatible. I do find Linux having little to no support for what I want to do with it. I don't see anything wrong with MS Office at all (although I never really p*** for it...) where open office is missing some helpful & useful features.

the omfg use linux and openoffice it's free and it's better when windows because windows sucks line gets kind of old.

I just ordered an HP Core2Duo Laptop, T7300 Processor with 2 Gigs of ram, with Windows Vista Business!hehe

So far, the best OS for me is Windows 2000 PRO, it is bulletproof. You just cannot break this OS down! I don't Like XP and have always found it somewhat flaky. It can get unstable at the drop of a hat if you push it. I think Vista, from all the news I have heard, will end up getting formatted and replaced with XP, the lesser of two evils.

Well the old IBM laptop has been failing and now won't go into the XP operating system (not found). I'll fix it later (have backups) but I was in the market for a new one anyway.  So I just bought a new HP Laptop which is really nice (17 inch screen) but unfortunately came with Vista. As I'm typing this the DVD software has come on by itself and blocked the screen 4 times so far. Anyway the only thing I'm looking for is Mail - simple f**king e-mail. It's nowhere to be found. Not an icon, nothing in Control Panel, nothing in Explorer that implies Mail or e-mail. Anyone know where the setup is? Oh, and Microsoft has given notice that manufacturers cannot bundle new pc's with XP after Jan 31, 2008. Vista will be jammed down the people's throat - like it or not. The arrogance of this corporation (Steve Balmer) is amazing.

One thing that shocked me was that after copying over all my Quake 2 files, I connected and it ran perfectly. Plus the appearance is stunning - better than my desktop. I just need to figure out how to "unstretch" the display since its filling in the extra space on the wider display.

But e-mail would be nice.....

Its not in the Start Menu (jeez why would you put something as insignificant as Mail there?). I tried to take a screenshot of it but guess what...no print Screen function in Vista. Go to the net and there is a new exciting thing called Snipping Tool. Do a Run on 'Snipping Tool' and it doesn't exist. Or does it? I find it in accessories. Turn it on to capture the Start Menu listings and it closes the Start Menu. Brilliant. I then go to Run to find where "Windows Mail" might be and here's the screenshot. I've wasted many hours so far just trying to do/find basic things and what a POS this OS is. I need "permission" to ask myself if I want to copy simple files from one PC to another - within my own Workgroup.
I'll give this thing exactly one week
