Newbish question

Hello,

For a few months, I have been showing my wife the ins and outs of quake 2, and she is now better after a few months of playing than I was after years. Tonight I was demonstrating how to jump up the boxes to the GL on DM8. I showed her that with one punch of the jump button, it is easy to jump up to the GL. However, she was having to hit the jump key rapidly to get up there.

Confused at this, I tried to do it on her PC, and sure enough I had to hit the jump key rapidly to get up there, whereas just one tap of the key gets me up there on my pc, I just hit the jump key and I'm up there.

We have the same config file because she uses the same file I use, same cl_maxfps and same framerate.
 
Our PC's are a little different, Mine is a Core2Duo and geforce 7900, her's is a Athlon XP2100 and geforce 5900.

Any ideas on this, I'm pretty sure its the difference in specs on the pcs, but what do I need to change (if it is possible) to make my wife's pc as responsive?

If I recall correctly those box jumps require a framerate >= 100.

Since your configs are the same, the first thing that comes to mind is vsync.

Try a timerefresh on your wife's pc and see whether the FPS reported is > 100, or stuck at some value like 60 or 72 or 75 (e.g. the monitor refresh rate.)

If your timerefresh is showing less than 100 FPS, and your cl_maxfps is >= 100, try:

gl_swapinterval 0
gl_ext_swapinterval 0

Just the first thing that came to mind...

We are newlyweds (it'll be 6 years in November). I do continue to teach her the ins and outs though.   

Thanks, I figured it out, it was the V-Sync settings for the graphics card. We turned off the V-Sync and now she can get up the boxes with one click of the jump button. Advice is much appreciated.

Since we turned the V-Sync off, I have found that it has made alot of maneuvers much easier to do now, not only those specific box jumps
