Flamboyancy is just an example, catalyst. Sexuality does not define an individual as chris crocker claims how it defines him. Does my heterosexuality define me as a person? No. He correlates his actions with homosexuality in order to have an audience that will actually listen to him--this action can't really be compared with something like Will and Grace, although I can still see where you're coming from. Whether he tells people to take his videos seriously or not doesn't really matter either, because no matter what most of everyone will take it seriously. Chris claims that in his most recent video he was being 100% serious, unlike some of his others. So 'leave britney alone' should give you a nice peek at the intellect behind this attention-seeking humor :>

As far as his flamboyancy. Gays come in all shapes and colors, and there are equally the flamboyant ones just as the ones who can and have easily passed as a "straight," in society. I often wondered myself, why on earth would someone choose to have a speech impediment. To voluntarily have a lisp while the next person pays a lot of money to a speech pathologist to rid themselves of theirs.

and this brings me to my next point..

I don't think that kid has the balls to be gay. Anyone can make an ass of themself in a webcam or on tv.
just watch american idol once and you'll get what I'm talking about here.

1: you've stated that a gay who has sense is a gay who isn't flamboyant for attention. I ain't even touching that, cuz I wouldn't know where to begin.   

2: you've stated that people like chris crocker give gay people a bad name. Chris Crocker can only give Chris Crocker a bad name. You've empowered him too much to say he's a spokesperson for the masses. I've also noticed you're making claims to what everyone is feeling or thinking regarding a particular subject. see #3 & 4

3: you've declared he (alone?) is the reason for all the hate brought upon him but to others as well. that's like saying the action of one black is the reason for all the hate brought upon blacks; oh snap, you may have a valid argument there, for that is the thinking of many, thank gods not ALL. 

4: you've declared and decided for others that ANYONE would give 2 bits of excrement about him only because they feel sorry for him. I applaud your empathic abilities to know what others are feeling in his regard. 

All of those famous shows with homosexual character(istic)s: Will and Grace as previously mentioned, The L Word, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, etc. have all received criticism from the gay population for misrepresenting the gay population. Chris Crocker's productions have and will fall victim to the same criticism.

Bottom line is the numbers. Chris Crocker serious or not, has become a household name through these attention seeking measures.

Number 1 is irrelevant, you're putting words in my mouth when in the context I worded that I was speaking in generalities; not specifics. And I will still stick to my original statement though: a homosexual does not need to change his/her lifestyle in entirety to be a homosexual; it is done for attention.

Number 2 is irrelevant as well, being that I, and the power that I give to chris crocker is illogical in this argument. I haven't empowered him 1 bit and I don't need to. There's over 50,000 comments in a week on his most recent video. That is his empowerment.

Number 3 is irrelevant being that I never even said that he alone, solely, gives gays a bad name.

Number 4 is semi-valid, only because I exaggerated when I said 'anyone'. My bad, excuse me. I meant 'the vast majority' of people viewing that video (see comments on video).


The examples that you're using to compare the 'misinterpretations' of the gay community CANNOT be compared with chris crocker. It's like comparing apples and oranges, truly. Also, chris crocker is far from a 'household name', to me. I didn't even know who he was until the 'leave britney alone' video came out. I've watched plenty of his video since then tho, unfortunately.


THE TRUE BOTTOM LINE:

sexuality does not define an individual, and the people who pretend it does are seeking attention, or have a very skewed perception of reality.

Isn't the purpose of anyone who runs a series of videos on youtube, myspace, and what not, doing it for attention? for self-promotion? free publicity? This is how you get on Oprah w/o an agent. This is how you get on television or cameos in movies without having to go through a casting call.

At first, I thought Mr. Crocker was full of himself. But after I watched a few of his vids, I realized, that's the art he was trying to portray, being full of himself. Even he admits, you're not to take him seriously. And if you don't, looking at him in that light, he is sort of funny. As far as giving gay people a bad name, the same was said for the Emmy award winning show Will and Grace. There is ALWAYS going to be someone offended. I think back to something I read about Eminem  in Rolling Stone I believe,  to the effect, "They say his art is obscene, but obscenity is his art." Crocker's antics I feel fall into this category.

Catalyst you are way too focused on picking apart my posts, and so far, no offense, you've addressed very little on what I have to say about chris crocker. It seems that whenever I talk in specifics (chris crocker) you always bring generalities into it and vice versa. It's not a question of numbers. Scroll through a random 100 comments on the 'leave britney alone' and see for yourself. I guarantee that 9/10 of them, if not MORE will be extremely negative towards him. See for yourself.
