How much more does TastySpleen have to offer?

i have a couple things to ask.

First to the admins, does TastySpleen have the resources for any more servers?  Or are we sucking down all we can get right now?  The reason i ask is i'd like to see a server dedicated to the stock DM maps, and i am also a fan of the Weapons of Destruction mod.  (Monkey, if you hate my chaingun, you'd just love my streetsweeper and grenade bazooka ).  i personally dont think we are at the point where there is too much offered and the crowds would get too thin.  Actually, i think the more that is offered, the more people will be brought into the community.  There are many that have narrow tastes that would/could be broadened just by it being available.  If the resources are maxed, this is not even a moot point.  But if they aren't, perhaps there is opportunity.

Second, i'm curious what other mods everyone is playing.  Or things you do that TS doesnt offer.  And i am not asking you to name servers or anything to steal any thunder from TS, but just to see what everyone's desires are.

yeah, a conventional dm1-8 server would get played on a lot, especially since kansas.net disappeared (although I think it's back now, but nobody plays at it) I know for a fact it would get played on more than the sheridan, which I'm not saying to take it down or anything cuz I love when once a month 3 people are in there playing city1 but you would get a boost in the player base if you put a server up like gators talking about.

Yeah, a dm rotation server with lots of people would certainly make me play there. Problem with most ffa servers aside tastyspleen and the q2dm1 servers (and occasionally mage warehouse) is that not many play there, and FFA is more fun when more than 4 people are playing As for wod, do what you like, but I'm not gonna play there  On zone wod was the magnet that dragged many new players into the game, but not sure if they stick around moving to more conventional mods (dm/tdm/ra2/rails/ctf/whatever) or just play wod and weird mods Think the main concern is that more servers will make less people play at each server and then tastyspleen may lose it's appeal; the always crowded servers where you see your friends and foes. But that being said, adding a q2dm map rotation server can prove to actually get more people to play on the servers, who knows

I am also curious if the server could host a standard dm maps (beyond the mymap on mutant).  Perhaps another linux/solaris box, network hardware, or ISP service is needed and the community could help out.  Never know unless we ask.

The probably I have with a server based on q2dm1-8 is that it might be too popular and really hurt the amount of people who play on vanilla and mutant.  I hope it would be a server that is not overly populated all the time since I enjoy playing with a huge group of people on vanilla. 

So I kind of hope it doesn't happen, but if it does then I hope it's not too popular like I already said.

Yes we have a little headroom left... we could run, say, a 16-player dm1-8 server, no prob.

Alternately, if kong is amenable, we could get the 'goto' command working between kong's server(s) and tastyspleen - so y'all could move freely between the whole group of servers including kong's... ?

The problem with that logic, is that the point is to appease the greater populus I imagine right?  And if a dm1-dm8 server was more populated than the vanilla server, then that's what people prefer.  Many people play on the vanilla server because there is no dm1-dm8 option.  I would love love love love love a dm1-dm8 tasty server.  I really like the community here, but I'd like to at least have the option to do some good old fashioned ID DM for a few rotations in a row if I could.  And as you'll see, it would become very popular, at least I certainly would predict so.

Edit - Oh.... and if there does come about a dm1-dm8 server, let's do it the right way (my way =P).  I presume this will be a pro-skills and anti-spam server.  In the fact that you'll have more skilled players on this server than your average vanilla player.  Much like mutant typically has a better skilled player than vanilla.  So I request/suggest that quad/invuln and power shield are disabled.  I also suggest that the BFG be removed from all maps, and if not all maps, then just leave it on dm4, since that's mostly a crappy map anyway, so the BFG will make that map cycle by fairly quickly =)

Any other thoughts and suggestions on the conditions of the dm1-dm8 server, please share em, since it sounds like this might actually become a new shiny server =)

Hmmm... dm1-dm8 doesn't sound like a bad idea (i'd like to see the bfg remain however... =P) - i'd probably play a few rounds but stick mainly to mutant.

I don't think a new server would take away people from the other tasty servers AT ALL.  Most of the people who play on the vanilla server ONLY play on that server and really enjoy the sp maps.  I think it'd mainly draw people from other servers... which could be a good thing and a bad thing..  like our tournaments (based on the character of these new people)    I think in the end it has been a really good thing though.  I've really enjoyed the new competition and the pressure to improve and all the new activity! 

Tastyspleen rocks!  It is such a popular server and I'm stoked it has done so well and hope it never goes down!!!!  The more servers the better!  What about an ra2 server (i'm sure funhouse/parkward/lilpiggy would REALLY love that  )?  I don't really play it because I don't know where the servers are and I never look them up...

Anyways, I'm content with how things are but it's always good to look for ways to improve and expand and grow and develop and move with everyone else (or alone) steadily into the future..
