When I play on the vanilla server and it goes to the map "The Tourture Chambers." It says that map differs from server but I can not find it in my base2/ maps folder. what is wrong or what do I do?

Im not sure if this is correct .... but also look in - quake2/maps instead of quake2/baseq2/maps  ... it may be in there.

The Torture Chambers is jail4.bsp, and normally resides in your baseq2/pak0.pak.

So first, make sure you don't have any file in your baseq2/maps called jail4.bsp.  If you do, maybe deleting that file will solve the problem.

If not, it would seem your pak0.pak is corrupted.

The legal answer would be: From your Quake2 install CD.

You may be able to find it somewhere else, but I can't really help with that.

I've had the same problem with bunk1, but instead of reinstalling the pakfile I just downloaded that map again from the server.
But to do this you need a work-around:

Open pak0.pak in Pakscape. (download here)

- in the 'maps' directory find 'jail4.bsp'
- change the name to something else, like 'jail4-orig.bsp'
  (to rename a file in Pakscape you must doubleclick it slowly)
- then save the pak0.pak

Make sure you have downloads enabled:
From the ingame menu go to: Multiplayer-> player setup-> download options-> allow downloads: yes
Next time the server goes to jail4 you will download that map to your baseq2/maps folder.

Note that r1q2 users will probably have to disable HTTP downloading locally (if that's possible) for this to work.

As far as I know, the HTTP download feature won't download from pak files... And it's not polite enough to fall back to UDP if HTTP doesn't work.  (Unless something has changed recently.)
